Alan Simmons

BandCountryChristian

A mix of traditional and contemporary country based on real life and real people.

Biography

Frankly, at 40 I'm too old to be an artist (plus I don't have the vocal chops). I am, however, a very good songwriter and lyricist. My influences range from Ray Charles to Steven Curtis Chapman. I love all styles of music.

Big Girl Britches

Written By: Alan Simmons

Big Girl Britches

We’ve been friends for a long, long time
Schoolmates, roommates, and partners in crime
We’ve laughed and cried together since we were fourteen
But lately you’ve become a little bit of a drama queen
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind hearing your side
But I got something to say that’s been building up inside
Bridge to Chorus
I’m tired of hearing you complain and whine
And fuss about your so called miserable life
I’ve got some good advice so listen up a minute
Put your big girl britches on and deal with it

Chorus
Put your big girl britches on and act your age
Any little bitty problem makes you want to run away
If you want a better life you better grow up and live it
So put your big girl britches on and deal with it

You’ve been burnin’ both ends of the candle for years
Then you gripe about how tired you are until you’re in tears
You make life harder than it has to be
And it ain’t just killin’ you, girlfriend – it’s killin’ me
You take the fun out of everything we do
So hush and pay attention – I’ve got news for you

Bridge to Chorus

Chorus x 2

I Need to Know

Written By: Alan Simmons

I Need To Know

Hey Daddy I know you’re busy; but when you get some time
I wish you’d slow down and play with me for just a little while
I know all about your deadlines; yeah I know you’ve got things due
I just wish you could understand I need to spend some time with you

Chorus
I need to know that you love me; I need to know that you care
I need to know that when my life gets tough you’ll be right there
I need to know that I’m important to you; and you care what I’m going through
I need to know I’m love by you

Mama I know you’re schedule’s crazy; and there just ain’t time to stop
I just thought that someday maybe you and me could take a walk
You spend your whole day running; Mama what are you running from?
You find time for everyone but me; Mama how come?

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I know you think you’re doing it all for me
You work so hard so I can have the things you think I need
But sometimes I wish you could read my mind
I don’t want your money; I just want your time

Lead Break

Repeat Chorus x2

Brand New Set of Dreams

Written By: Alan Simmons

Brand New Set of Dreams

Jennifer found out her husband was cheating Sunday, October 8th
He denied it all ‘til she threw those emails in his face
He was seeing more than one; it could’ve been three or four
She kicked him out and said don’t come back, I can’t trust you anymore

She never saw it coming; she’s got such a trusting heart
But even though her world is crumbling, she won’t fall apart

Chorus
She’s tougher than nails, sweeter than honey
And I pray she’ll find somebody
That’ll treat her like a princess
And take away her loneliness
And even though she deserved better
She made the best of what life gave her
Now she’s moving on to better things
With a brand new set of dreams

Sarah’s putting on her makeup before she goes to work
It’ll cover up them bruises, but it can’t hide the hurt
He comes home smelling like smoke and whiskey
And she knows where he’s been
So while he sleeps it off she takes the kids and leaves
Before it starts all over again

She never saw it coming; she’s got such a trusting heart
But even though her world is crumbling, she won’t fall apart

Repeat Chorus x 2
