Today we’d like to introduce you to Alayo.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started playing guitar at the age of 9 and began writing music at the age of 10. In 2013, I started a band called “Nostalgic Minds”. We have accomplished many things over the years such as a TV spot on NBC 6 in the Mix, and on Telemundo alongside singer/songwriter, Steph Red, to name a few. We were also featured on Balcony TV. In 2014, I was nominated for an American Songwriting Award for my song, “Dear K.C.” In October 2017, we headlined in NYC at The Bowery Electric. As of 2019, I am currently working on my solo debut album which will be released under my label, NY7 Records. I founded the label in 2018 in which I manage myself and work with other artists such as Democracy and Imahaeigh.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a Singer/Songwriter/Producer. My current project is more R&B, but I am open to all genres of music. I want to leave the music open to the listener’s interpretation. I also love film, both writing a script and/or composing music for one.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
The advice that I would give to other artists is be patient and consistent. Always work hard no matter what obstacle may come your way.

I met Jon Secada at The Recording Academy’s Holiday Party in 2017. He told me ‘stay on top of your social media game’. That is one lesson that I wish I had learned earlier. Your most powerful marketing tool is in the palm of your hands. I’m not an avid social media user myself.
