Discography

AL/CAPONE – Mr. Smooth
Al/Capone’s music, a mixture of jazz, R&B, funk, fusion and Latin, is contemporary and melody driven while always remaining true to its jazz roots. When the vocal abilities of Alex Ligertwood are added to the mix, the results are absolutely magical.

Al/Capone’s "Mr. Smooth", is an eleven song album that features an all star lineup showcasing the talents of Alex Ligertwood (Santana, Billy Cobham, and Average White Band), Dean Brown, (David Sanborn, Brecker Brothers), Steven Wolf (Celine Dion, Grover Washington, Jr., Avril Lavigne) and producer/keyboardist Jason Miles (Miles Davis, Sting, Luther Vandross).

At the heart of the group are Al/Capone founding members, Jeep Capone (drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals) and Allen Young (trumpet, flugelhorn, valve trombone, EVI, keyboards, vocals). Rounding out the ensemble is a group of exceptionally talented players from the Minneapolis area including Jason Craft, keyboards; Peter Vircks, saxophone and flute; Vincent Rose, guitar; Chris Lomheim, keyboards; Mark Hoyt, background vocals and Graydon Peterson, bass.

The music was recorded and mixed in Minneapolis at Winterland Studios by Todd Fitzgerald and Masters Recording Institute by Tom Tucker and Adam Krinsky; and mastered at Rare Form Mastering in Minneapolis by Greg Reierson. James Oldham of PM Sound in Las Vegas also assisted with recording, mixing and production. Four songs were produced, mixed and mastered by Jason Miles in New York. With powerful writing and a superstar lineup, Al/Capone's album “Mr. Smooth” is a jazz force that must be experienced.

Al/Capone’s live show is a mixture of contemporary instrumental and vocal originals along with some timeless standards, most notably Alex Ligertwood’s renditions of classic Santana hits. Al/Capone’s world-class musicians are at home in every genre from smooth jazz to funk to rock, and every show is guaranteed to be powerful, dynamic and jammin’!

Bio

The word Jazz is hard to define; it is a musical form that is constantly evolving. As the great trombonist J. J. Johnson put it, "Jazz is restless. It won't stay put and it never will". Al/Capone has created a style all their own. Their music is an eclectic mix that fuses R&B, Funk, Rock, and Latin music together while remaining true to their Jazz roots. The band creates magic as they perform and become one with the music. Their interaction and improvisational skills bring the listener along with them through each moment.

Jeep Capone and Al Young are the founding members of Al/Capone. Jeep and Al were born and raised in Chicago, IL.

The members of Al/Capone have recorded and performed live with artists like; Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Michael Brecker, Santana, Arturo Sandoval, Dean Brown, Jaco Pastorius and many more. With the wonderful music, musicianship, extensive experience, and the fact that Jeep is a relative of Al Capone make Al/Capone a unique and fascinating story.
