Alder

BandAlternativeRock

With memorable melodies, exotic instrumentation, and tasteful amounts of that "indie" sound with pure pop/rock sensibilities, Alder will draw not only your ears, but your heart. His music is perfectly suited as a backdrop for film/tv and everyday life.

Biography

The lyric, “I was born in a small town, I was raised in a small town, live and die in a small town, a small community”, does not apply to Georgia bred David Bowick. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a Degree in Music Production and Engineering, Bowick decided to take the trip out West. After working at Record Plant Studios and opening up for bands such as the Plain White T’s in his old Boston based band The Broken Word, Bowick decided to go it alone.

Alder, the lifelong dream of this now Los Angeles based singer/songwriter, is coming to life. It’s the soundtrack for driving your car along the beaches of California at sunset. Memorable melodies, exotic instrumentation, and tasteful amounts of that “indie” sound with pure pop/rock sensibilities, Alder will draw not only your ears, but your heart. With songs that everyone can relate to, don’t be surprised to hear “Answers” as the theme song for the next Laguna Beach.

Written and recorded mostly by David himself, look for Alder’s debut album “Long Way Down” in February of 2008.

Notable Statistics:
Played at the Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice Beach, CA

Answers

Written By: David Bowick

She says it's a feeling that grips her
Like a tide it pulls her farther and farther away
I know that she can't fight it
But what can i do when she just gives in

I took my time to find out some answers
Traced my lifeline to find the right words
I've found that i just won't get an answer
How hard i try I can't seem to reach her.

When she's out there what the hell should i do
Just give up let her go until she breaks through?
I wish that i could get her to see
I'm here waiting 'til she comes back to me

I took my time to find out some answers
Traced my lifeline to find the right words
I've found that i just won't get an answer
How hard i try I can't seem to reach her.

What good is time if you never move forward?
What good is time if you can't move on?

Penance

Written By: David Bowick

You were brave to trust me
I'm not all that worthy
My head won't always listen
to what my heart says that I'll be missing

I've done my penance for
All that I've done and more
When will this feeling go
I don't know [ but I won't hurt you anymore ]
I tried to turn around
Forget it all went down
Will this feeling go
I don't know [ but I won't hurt you anymore ]

I used to not know what I want
Now I, I only want you
Every mistake I've made
was enough to make me say
I love you

I've done my penance for
All that I've done and more
When will this feeling start to go
I don't know [ I can't hurt you anymore ]
I tried to turn around
Forget it all went down
Will this feeling ever go
I don't know [ I can't hurt you anymore ]

I finally see that it's you i need

Surrounded

Written By: David Bowick

You wander around on these streets for hours,
Wondering why I’m not likely found.
Walking around like personified dreams–
A blend of a ghost and what’s missing from me

I’m never gone, you always bring me back

I am surrounded by your eyes
Lighting up dark skies all through the night
I am turning the pages
Though all sorts of changes lie waiting for me
I finally know what it means.
I finally know what you mean to me.

The roads never end you just end up in somewhere
A place that you choose or one you’ll regret
But don’t let it change the person you are
You just never know who might love you as you

I am surrounded by your eyes
Lighting up dark skies all through the night
I am turning the pages
Though all sorts of changes lie waiting for me
I finally know what it means.
I finally know what you mean to me.

We’ll get it right
One day I’ll be all you thought I’d be.
Stay here tonight
Get lost in this moment here with me.
Surround me with you.

I am surrounded by your eyes
Lighting up dark skies all through the night
I am turning the pages
Though all sorts of changes lie waiting for me
I finally know what it means.
I finally know what you mean to me.

Found A Light

Written By: David Bowick

I can't think of the words, I get tongue-tied.
It's raining in your eyes, I could drown here.
If I were washed away I'd still come back for more.
I'd slow the earth down just to stay here.

I found a light inside of you
It all went so blurry, all I thought I knew.
I found a light, a brand new view
Outside my window with just the thought of you.

I've walked around the world just to see you.
I stood on solid ground until that moment.
I drifted off somewhere I'd never been before.
I'll do anything just to stay here.

I found a light inside of you
It all went so blurry, all I thought I knew.
I found a light, a brand new view
Outside my window with just the thought of you.

Any moment spent with you,
Anything you want to do
You shine with everything I need,
Everyone here would agree.
You should be with me.

I found a light inside of you
It all went so blurry, all I thought I knew.
I found a light, a brand new view
Outside my window with just the thought of you.

Dreamer

Written By: David Bowick

Rain drops down onto New York city lights
And clutches her window.
Thin glass wall–she presses a finger;
Not an inch between her and outside.

Her breath–a blurry photo
Taken by a tree swaying swiftly.
Her boyfriend calls late in the evening;
A lonely heart so far apart.

A dreamer waits for
The dark to tuck away the light
And hide the truth right around it.

She hangs up–slides under new sheets.
Toes curl up wishing for his too.
There's so much I never told her
Face to face, I never could speak.

The lonely sound of rain on the rooftop
I hear from here as she speaks in her sleep.
It evaporates drifts 'cross the country
a 3 hour trip–her lips to my ears.

A dreamer waits for
the dark to tuck away the light
and hide the truth right around it.

Sleep This Night

Written By: David Bowick

With hands that join
Like the hours of time
Holding a past
That cannot be forgotten,
We march our feet
To the rhythms of that past
And carry our muskets
Like patriots of our own new worlds.

I play my goodbyes
On the highway of lines
Directing the traffic
To everywhere but home.
I drift and sway
Right off the road,
But no one turns their heads
So I park the car and I

Sleep the night, this night without you.
Sleep the night, I'll still wake up for you.

You take your goodbyes
With a glass of cold water,
And they spread through your body
With a jolt of surprise.
Nevermind all the words
They never quite fit
They hold with them meaning
Of what you can guess.

Sleep the night, this night without you.
Sleep the night, I'll still wake up for you.

In the end, the moment that's fallen
Is risen with springtime.

Long Way Down

Written By: David Bowick

The best that we do can fail anytime
And all that we know could change any moment
Just one tiny step down could put you in a whole new world

I've never been lost, I just never know quite
Where I need to, who I need to be, but it's all in my head see?
Because I'm going somewhere.

It's a long way down–
The fall down from starlight.
I could never say good night
It's a long way down–
I can't let it go sometimes
I could never say goodbye
To all my life.

I take what's important in all that I do
A central location to keep it in view
And life moves around it in shadows and hunger

I gazed through the glass, saw summer push wind
An echo of me blew with the breeze
And i just stayed quiet and drifted right through it

It's a long way down–
The fall down from starlight.
I could never say good night
It's a long way down–
I can't let it go sometimes
I could never say goodbye
To all my life.

Long Road Back To You

Written By: David Bowick

I'll take the long road back to you
with every change that we go through
whatever our lives turn into
I'll take the long road back to you

one day when we start to look old
our houses all have long been sold
when memory is all that's left to hold
i'll take the long road back to you

our silence took you by the hand
and led you out to different lands
i don't think i'll ever understand
but i'll take the long road back to you

who knew that this is where we'd be
stuck high up in our separate trees
i hope to god they'll set me free
and i'll take the long road back to you
