Bio

.
Alejandro Chavez, at 17 years old (1997) and traveling by himself through Mexico, discovered that song was the ticket of the traveler. Since then he found that the journey is the spark that propels his verses. And in turn, these verses weave and unravel the reality, which speaks from a beating heart in resistance to the paralyzing movement of impositions. His songs are an invitation to dance, to free yourself from the weight of obligations, to breathe and feel alive… With a vast command on the language of traditional Mexican music, improvisation, and the spoken word, Alejandro rekindles these roots with elements that recompose them until they flower into a fiery voice like the earth that he comes from.

His influences are from son jarocho and jaliscience, south American rhythms, afro-latino percussion, moving though rock, funk, blues, bossa nova and jazz…

He has been performing since 1997 in a variety of different venues, including: Rhyme + Image Latin-Canadian Festival (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA, 2008); Mexico City Museum in the A Retrospective of the Works of León Chávez Teixeiro (Mexico City, MEXICO, 2004); Festival “Rolas en la Urbe” (Mexico City, MEXICO, 2004); International Cultural Festival of Cuernavaca (Cuernavaca, MEXICO, 2004, 2006); Cultural Festival of Zacatecas (Zacatecas, MEXICO, 2005); Benito Juárez Theater (Mexico City, MEXICO, 2006). Additionally, in October of 2007, Alejandro presented his band, Alejandro Chavez and L@s prófug@s del casero at the venue, El Vicio (Mexico City, MEXICO).

Alejandro has been invited to present his work on nacional television programs in Mexico, such as “Acústico”(2004) on channel 22, hosted by Rita Guerrero, the vocalist for the band, Santa Sabina. In 2006 he appeared on the same program hosted by the singer Eugenia León. Finally, he appeared on the program Animal Nocturno (2007), hosted by the journalist, Ricardo Rocha.
