Biography

Alexa George was born the youngest of three in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. While music and singing were a part of her life since the age of 6, it was not until she inherited a 1971 Gibson Heritage guitar, from her father’s ill and dying friend, that she decided music would be her life. The mint condition vintage guitar inspired her to take guitar playing more seriously and during the summer of her junior year at the University of Michigan she taught herself to play. In a few months time she joined an acoustic band, in which Alexa sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar. They performed often throughout the next two years at various music venues in Ann Arbor on campus, and around the metropolitan Detroit area. Alexa also spent this time writing her first original songs and thus planting her seed as a songwriter.
Alexa was born first generation to Greek-immigrant parents. Her perseverance and drive to realize her dreams is not only a trait she was born with but was also learned through her parents’ ambition as a tailor and seamstress to open their own business and pave the way for their children to realize their own dreams. With the musical ear and crystal clear voice inherited from her father, she writes and sings about her family and childhood dreams.
A dreamer from the start, Alexa always imagined herself somewhere outside of her hometown Troy, Michigan. After saving up enough money after graduation, in the spring of 2003, she drove cross-country to Los Angeles where she still resides. Although loving the city of Los Angeles, making it ‘home’ was a bit of a struggle for Alexa because of close family ties back home in Michigan. In her songs, such as “Belly Full of Ache” she invokes the feeling of being lost and longing for familiarity such as in the line, “piercing chandelier hangs over her head like her mother’s words.” After writing, performing and collaborating with other musicians for three years, Alexa began recording her first five-song EP ‘Everything Left’ which was released in late 2006. In these five songs she writes of her personal struggles in such a way that everyone who has transitioned into adulthood can relate. With the hopeful title, she proclaims that this is only the beginning -- she still has “everything left”. Since 2006, Alexa has been writing songs on the piano in addition to the guitar, adding more depth and range to her music. She is currently writing new songs and performing throughout the Los Angeles area. She is working in recording studios on her next album, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2009.
Alexa is a singer/songwriter who sings with a passion deep and heartfelt. Her music and lyrics are born from personal reflection, with an almost spiritual reverence for life's trials and journeys of personal discovery and introspection. Her songs are inspired by love and the joy and heartbreak of growing up. Each song speaks for itself and has its own unique style. Alexa writes story-telling, emotional lyrics that ring true through her powerful, soulful voice. Her songs are very intimate and range from upbeat pop, to ballady, to a raw acoustic/folk sound. Her voice is the driving force of each song.

Lyrics

Belly Full of Ache

Written By: Alexandra Georgiadis

Curled up in her armchair with a belly full of ache.
Wonderin' about a white dress and feeling all the emptiness.
Piercing chandelier hangs over her head like her mother's words.

Hangs over her head like her mother's words.

Boy come stay with me tonight and fill a little more space. Your arms wrap around me so right I'd never know what's wrong.
I wish I could tell you I'm sorry once more, but I didn't know love could be so unsure.

Didn't know love could be so cruel.

California's on the edge of the world and if I land feet first I'll wake up okay. (2x)

She's in a crowded room. All eyes on her. Her fingers are bleeding, but still she won't say a word. The shadows behind their faces comfort her more than the smiles.

She's so sick of the smiles.

California's on the edge of the world and if I land feet first I'll wake up okay. (3x)
