When I was a sophomore in college I was in a rut for about a month and nothing that I was listening to was what I wanted to be hearing; in other words, nothing I put on could fulfill that void that music is usually so good at. So, I decided to make my own based on my mood and what I wanted to hear. A year and a half later, after living, studying and working on my album in Baltimore, Boulder, Hawaii and Copenhagen I had a finished product. In that time I gained a lot of diverse musical influences that dictated the style of my music. I am often told that my music is like a mix of Pink Floyd and STS9, I also find that Incubus, Radiohead and a little Jimi Hendrix have found their way into my music. If you listen to my music you will find that it is unlike anything you have heard before and every song is very different. I definitely have a style, but one that can not be easily categorized. My curse and my blessing is that I did the typical music thing backwards. That is, I wrote the music while I was recording it, so after I had a full repertoire of music, I had to start over and figure out how to play it all live. Rehearsing is an interesting process, but once I figure out how it can best be put together live it makes for a very entertaining live show. I loop and layer everything, so the audience literally watches me build the song they are listening to as progresses. As well, it is pretty obvious by now that the paradigm for the way musicians create and distribute their product is changing, in the words of a friend, mentor and an EMI record executive, "there will always be music, there will not always be a music industry." Accordingly, my music will always be free for personal use, I encourage as many people as possible to download my music free of charge. This may not exactly be lucrative, but music is my true passion, I am certain that my ability combined with my dedication will continue to manifest my contribution to this world.
