Bio
Alexandra Rising is the stage moniker of Leia Alexandra Manuel, a curly-haired only child born and raised in rural, south-central VA. Among her musical role models she counts the individualistic, the magnetic, the theatrical, and the androgynously sexy: artists who are less men or women then they are forces of nature. Her favorite characters to explore in art are the heroic villains, the villainous heroes, and others who defy classification, as do we all once you really get to know us.
Influences: Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Rufus Wainwright, PJ Harvey, (old) Tori Amos - plus Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, Judy Collins, Radiohead, Don McClean, The Beatles, and The Doors. And perhaps a bit of Sir Lloyd Webber.
Interests: mischievious eyes, alpha personalities, living legends, temptation and resistance, mental androgyny, and stereotype-screwing in general
Leia says: "I kinda sorta would rather be a guy with a a velvet baritone, a la Dave Gahan or Michael Hutchence or Peter Murphy. But I think I do quite well, considering my limitations."
