ALEXIANE

The only child of a Franco-Senegalese father and a Quebec mother, Alexiane comes from a family of travelers. Her childhood, spent between Senegal and Canada, gave her a rich culture and the sense of being at home anywhere. It's during her many travels that she discovered the colors and sounds that would shape her influences, from Youssou N'dour to Céline Dion, from Dido to Otis Redding.

It's a timid temperament, but also an illness (severe atopic dermatitis since she was three months old), that pushed Alexiane to create lyrics and melodies as an outlet from a very early age. She hopes to soothe people through her music and offer a message of hope as well as the feeling of strength.

After obtaining her baccalaureate in economics from McGill University (Montreal) in 2015, Alexiane moved to Los Angeles to join the Music Business & Music Production program at UCLA and work on her first album, Into the Sun, which will be released this fall. Alexiane has been writing for a long time with her best friend Igor Kempeneers, with whom she shares a unique bond and a nostalgia for beautiful things.

THE GENESIS OF A MILLION ON MY SOUL

It's while thinking about the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood that Alexiane wrote this song. The solution she proposes is to dive into a total solitude ("leave me alone") to look at herself in the face and clean up in order to be able to throw herself forward and emerge from childhood. "I gotta be a man" is an image that applies to men as well as women; it means "make choices and own them." This piece was written with a sense of urgency… A Million in My Soul is a "grow-up song."

Igor Kempeneers, Mathieu Carratier and Alexiane submitted a selection of songs they wrote together to iconic French director Luc Besson (The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy) for his next sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. He chose A Million On My Soul to play during the end credits of the film, which will be released in 140 countries and boasts the biggest budget ever for a European production.
