Alex Painter's bio:

Alex's foundation in soul and r&b was established early on. He started his career as a teenager playing guitar in the blues bars of St. Louis with his group, Sinister Dane. A self-taught musician, Alex went on to study voice under James Earl Mumford at Indiana University. Here he both played guitar and sang with Mr. Mumford's African American Choral Ensemble, studying Gospel, Spirituals and Formal Composition. Experiencing a nomadic upbringing that exposed him to music from around the world, Alex's taste for sound evolved to encompass many genres such as the reggae and punk sounds of his father’s native roots in London/Birmingham, the sensuality of Brazil and the fire of Nigeria while traveling abroad on his own.
Upon settling in Los Angeles after high school, he found his voice as singer and songwriter for L.A. legends, Section 8. Exploring the intersection of funk, Afro-Latin, rock and reggae, Section 8 broke ground in the LA underground that lives on in such acts as Ozomatli. He later switched to bass and keyboards in the group, The Peak Show, another L.A. underground favorite. Painter soon found himself working with Mario Caldato of the Beastie Boys, making an album for Atlantic Records and touring with such groups as Maroon 5, Dave Matthews and Michael Franti's Spearhead. With Alex's songwriting skills, The Peak Show went on to license many of their songs to major motion pictures and television.
After the dissolution of The Peak Show, Painter went on to license some of his own solo work, started an independent label (Future Street Records) and began to take his production to the next level. The result was Alex Painter's debut album, "The Joyful Process".

Together We Fly

Written By: Alex Painter

Together We Fly

Everyday, life shakes hands with its fate
Lovers saying hello, and others goodbye
We hunt for the answers and search for the keys
That will unlock or hearts and open the sky
In your eyes I saw forever but I held it too close
Cause forever’s an ocean, it moves on its own
Well I swam into the waves but then they threw me ashore a child again

All alone we breath
All alone we cry
All alone we dream dream dream
But together we fly, oh we fly, oh we fly

I’m learning to trust and forgive
And believe I’m okay and to be on my own and face everyday
And the urge is there to call you and fall back in your arms
But I want you to grow and we’ve both come so far
Yes the dream is still alive but it’s the truth I can’t deny
Can I at least receive some peace to know we’ve walked away with something
Like a smile that tells it all, it’s complete no need to call it by another name
We have shared the flame

All alone we breath
All alone we cry
All alone we dream dream dream
But together we fly, oh we fly, oh we fly….

What About Love?

What About Love?

Hello come in, I’m warm with pardon
Hang on don’t go, it just got started
Our love has grown, why now be parted

What About Love?
What About Holy?
What About Virtue?
What About Justice?
What About Hope?
What About Tomorrow?
Why all this sorrow?

Our love is fire, it shines so brightly.
Sometimes it burns, but it warms my heart see.
We have this chance, are we brave enough to dance?

What About Love?
What About Trusting?
What About Secrets?
What About The Time Spent?
What About Laughter?
Why All The Bullshit?
What About Friendship?

Hello come in, it just got started. X3

What About Love? X7

What About Love?
What About Holy?
What About Virtue?
What About Justice?
What About Hope?
What About Tomorrow?
Why all this sorrow?

Our Life Our Love

Written By: Alex Painter

Our Life Our Love

Up through the tears and pain that’s behind you
Into the love you always knew was there, but never saw
Light from the darkness this is the story of life
We pull victory from the toil and strife

Our love has grown, Our love survives
Our love has seen us through, Our love is life
Our love was a battle but now it is peace
We made the sacrifice and now we release

Our Life Our Love, Our Life Our Love, Our Life
Our Life Our Love, Our Life Our Love, Our Life

There is a world out there that needs you
Something big something small doesn’t matter at all
Life is gift so get busy giving
Don’t miss reaching out cause you’re too busy holding on

Your life is here, your life’s a flash
Your life’s a mystery, you know it best
Your life is yours, don’t wait for the cues
The answer you’re looking for’s inside of you

People are living and dying
Soldiers and babies, this world is so crazy
But don’t catch your self just watching
This world is our making
To many just taking from her
Sometimes it seems so futile
But rise above the drama
Shine your light up on it mama
You are me, as her is he
One love is the answer, your soul is a dancer

It’s our life, It’s our love
It’s our life, It’s our love….

Beautiful People

Beautiful People

All these people, beautiful people, angry people, hurt inside people
I sing this song hoping y’all, can find more
Cause I just want to feel love like you wanna feel love

All these people, beautiful people, fighting people, right and wrong people
There’s always more than one way, can’t you see
That they just want to feel love like you wanna feel love

They say the world has come so far, but all that I can see
Is the world polluted by our machines, and it’s children on their knees

All these people, beautiful people, angry people, hurt inside people
I sing this song hoping y’all, can find more
Cause I just want to feel love like you wanna feel love

They say the world has come so far, but all that I can see
Is the world polluted by our machines, and it’s children on their knees

All these people, beautiful people, fighting people, right and wrong people
The change is already here, so don’t fear
Cause she just wants to feel love like you wanna feel love..

Joyful

Written By: Alex Painter

Joyful

It’s a joyful process, it can’t be denied
You can catch me in the alley shaking plenty behind
We are on the one drop fusing the two
And you don’t need to ask what to do
It’s universal, mathematics indeed
It’s an equation of love
And a destroyer of greed
And she feels takin for granted so you better get down
It’s time for us to recognize the ground

It happened not to long ago, that we learned how to pimp the earth
And we felt so damn important we forgot how we were
Started abusing her and calling her dirt
But now it’s time for us to choose exactly how we’re going to live
We can either feel the rhythm or get down with the ism
I think you’ll find it satisfying to give
So put your foot on the rock

Move round, let out some sound
Shake it on off and strip it on down
Cause a lifestyle aint living if it makes you forget
Just exactly who it is that you are
We have all that we need in this circle so step on some greed
We’re moving on to the two O O one two
It’s gonna be something new for you and you and you and you

It happened not to long ago, that we learned how to pimp the earth
And we felt so damn important we forgot how we were
Started abusing her and calling her dirt
But now it’s time for us to choose exactly how we’re going to live
We can either feel the rhythm or get down with the ism
I think you’ll find it satisfying to give
So put your foot on the rock

God & Me

God and Me

Well Well Well
Girl you can’t deny I loved ya
You were my reason for arisin each morning
Working three hard jobs just to pay the rent
Come home to your complaining all the money spent
But that’s all right because you gave that love huh
A deep inside soul shakin the bones rub
We were workin on karma, getting in the earth
Love and Hate were wrestling tryin to break the curse
I must admit that now in retrospect
Had a deal with the devil that he meant to keep
Hiding all my love, living in the flesh
Payin up to fear didn’t know respect
But Love’s a much simpler proposistion
To bad this wrong world tells you different
Now I done learned but you’re to far gone
I’m singing to the wind can you hear my song cause now

It’s just God and Me
It’s just God and Me
Not the reasons why, we give to life that all must die
It’s just God and Me
It’s just God and Me
Not the world of things between us the truth and our dreams
It’s just God and Me
It’s just God

My daddy don called me the other day
Told me that reaper was on his way
The cancer went and got me and its time to talk
I’m sorry son I took so long to open up
I’m sure you realize now that life’s a flash
Get caught in the storm but you do your best
I know you felt alone but you’ll make it through
With the love you grandma gave ya you can do the do
Just remember for all your gold and what you desire on the earthly road
What can you say at the end of the day
Did you share your love with those around you can you face
The light and say that I’m ready sir
I’m burning down the house it’s time to leave the world
We’re countin on you son it’s your time you see
The spirits always with ya you can take it from me that

It’s just God and You
It’s Just God and You
Not the reasons why, we give to life that all must die
It’s just God and You
It’s just God and You
Not the world of things between us the truth and our dreams
It’s just God and You
It’s just God and You
Like the song within that put’s fire in your guitar strings
It’s just God and You
It’s just God
