alex&shiloh began as two itty bitty babies, whose names, unpredictably, were Alex and Shiloh. As kids, they had a penchant for hanging out together, posing in unnecessarily endearing photos, and stealing the spotlight from their professional musician parents as often as possible. Whether in California, where it all began, or Salisbury, Maryland, where they eventually landed and stayed, the brother/sister duo was constantly surrounded by music. From a pianist aunt who doubles as a music therapist to a hard-rocker teenage cousin, music is more or less the family business, and Alex and Shiloh are happy to stick to their roots.

The pair began writing music together in high school, with Shiloh penning most of the lyrics and Alex contributing the bulk of the musical arrangements. Both siblings have and continue to compose solo work, but find their real musical stride in their joint endeavors. Shiloh, who is rumored to have sung rather than spoken her first word, is the duo�s voice, with Alex contributing seamless harmonies and the occasional lead vocal. Alex, whose guitar is attached with the permanence of an extra limb, supplies the acoustic accompaniment in all of the pair�s work.

While not an explicit presence in their performances, both siblings bring a wide variety of musical experiences to the table, ones that influence the way they think about and approach their music. With 13 years of classical and operatic voice training, Shiloh is poised to think outside the limits of the pop music box and push her vocals to the next level. Alex, a classically trained trumpet player, hasn�t yet met an instrument he doesn�t like (or couldn�t play), and consistently looks for ways to expand the duo�s sound with the addition of banjo, piano, harmonica and the like.

The pair finds inspiration everywhere, but is most likely to list their first love as Lighter than Air, the touring �70s group that initially brought their parents together. After that, it�s an eclectic mix in the truest sense of the word. Alex swears by classic rock, but is equally as likely to listen to Damien Rice for hours on end. Shiloh loves a little bit of everything, but her heart belongs to Hip-hop and R&B, and Brian McKnight would be her husband if she thought it was a legitimate possibility. Musically, they meet up around pop with the occasional country standard thrown in, but nothing is off limits for alex&shiloh. These days, the duo finds themselves playing bars in and around Salisbury, and welcomes the opportunity to play any venue, anywhere.

Other important facts to know in case alex&shiloh is ever a �Jeopardy� category: Alex, 24, earned a degree in music from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. He has lived briefly in both the Dominican Republic and Spain, speaks Spanish, and baristas by day. Shiloh, 22, holds degrees in both music and fashion merchandising from the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. She studied Italian in Italy, has a love affair with vegetarianism, and dresses customers to a tee at Banana Republic.
