"Alexxa B just stands out in every way."

Not to diss the emerging new music in the city, but seeing her perform pinned me to the wall. She totally commits amid the welter of mediocrity that inevitably swirls around the city’s younger music scene. I have no idea whether she has a ‘good voice’ or how many chords shapes she knows, and that’s the point, Alexxa B delivers a feeling and an idea, not a piece of music.
You sense the perfect combination of darkness and vulnerability. She is Real – X Factor clones and drones would hate her.
But they’d have hated Bowie too. Wait, did I say Bowie?
Alexxa B laments, stomps, groans and growls her way through the material, she is mesmerising in her demand to be noticed and gratifying to relate to, once you’ve been hooked in. She owns the stage, and the onlooker.
Looking forward to developments there, no telling where she could go.

Bio

Alixxia (Alexxa B on lead vocals and guitar, James Owen on guitar, Platypus Bill on bass and Connor Stanford on drums) had an audition on 18 March 2011 for ATOM Live a music tour organised by the Access to Music network of colleges in the UK. They really enjoyed the audition and had good feedback from the audience and judges and are waiting to hear the results!

The band's infleunces are varied but they are bass and rhythm led and love to get the audience dancing. The set for the audition took in dub reggae (Crossed Lines), funky Hendrixy ruiffs and grungey vocals (Heroine) and a hybrid of rap jazz and metal (Get in your Car). Alixxia are working on new material.

Their influences include Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Rage against the Machine, Lovage, System of a Down, Skindred. Alexxa B likes the vocal styles of artists like Nikka Costa, Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse, as well as Billie Holiday and Susan Cadogan and likes marrying soulful female vocals with harder rock instrumentals. Alexxa B often adds a breakdown rap into her songs as she used to do performance poetry.

Alexxa B was previously lead singer for the band Aloe, with bassist Kieran Clinch and guitarist David Mullen. Their sound was nu metal meets grunge with a touch of punk. She continues to work on adhoc projects with them. Alexxa B has been developing harmony and acoustic guitar based sets with Nicki Heywood and Terry Bickers (ex House of Love/Levitation). She continue to work on developing new material with Terry and also with Robert Morris, who plays bass.
