"Los 10 mejores discos del 2012 según Francisco Granados"

“Es muy probable que Alfred Gómez Jr. sea uno de los músicos más subestimados por la escena mainstream de nuestro país. “Simple” se erige como una de las más gratas sorpresas de 2012. Un disco fresco, optimista, honesto y fácil de digerir que cuenta con buenas letras y un sonido pop que por momentos se pierde en el blues y el folk.”

Bio

Alfred Gomez Jr., is a singer-songwriter and producer, born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1978. His sound blends Rhythm and Blues and Folk music with a Latin twist. Emerges as one of the voices to be heard in the Latin American Indie music scene. New Album, Espiral, out March 13, 2017.

In 2008 releases La Reina Peinandose his debut album, The repertoire of the album was composed, arranged by the same musician and produced in collaboration with fellow countryman, musician, and arranger Chris Holder. This recording contains ten tracks where soul and jazz are amalgamated with Boogaloo, Hard Salsa and fusion elements. Songs like Cobarde and Me Arrebata achieved great reception in salsotecas worldwide, a year after the release, Buscando Olvidar the ninth track of the album was included in the soundtrack of the film He’s Just Not That Into You.

It would not be until the end of 2011, when the singer-songwriter presents the single Ni Un Momento, in the International Songwriting Competition, where it is selected among the semifinalist songs of the contest, this moment would mark a reinvention in the career of the artist, now with more introspective lyrics and with an organic and hopeful Pop/Soul sound, of impeccable instrumentation. From now on, Alfred, joined by a quartet, explores new musical landscapes, jamming with the band, singing and alternating between playing the acoustic guitar and a Wurlitzer electric piano.

In 2012 releases his sophomore album Simple, eleven songs written and composed by Alfred and co-produced with Max Martinez and Jose Angel Regnault, this recording opens the doors to Venezuelan radio stations, earning the respect of the critics and the attention of a new listener niche. Includes the song Estrella de Mar in a special collaboration with the Cuban singer-songwriter Julio Fowler.

In 2013, the single Si Es Amor is released to the radio accompanied by an animated video clip that receives the honorable mention Margot Benacerraf at the ELCO film festival, later that year, the album is nominated for the best Pop album of the year at the Pepsi Music Awards and kicks off a tour of forty concerts in the main stages of the country.

In 2014 premieres the project Sesiones En El Teatro, a series of live recording session performed from the legendary Teatro Cajigal in the city of Barcelona, Venezuela. For this session Alfred joined by Max Martinez on the Drums, Jose Angel Regnault on the Guitar and Eduardo Guzman on the Bass, performs four tracks from the album Simple, available on the artist's official YouTube channel.

In 2015, he participated as a guest artist in a series of concerts of the Movida Acústica Urbana, a Venezuelan traditional music fusion group led by the guitarist Álvaro Paiva, with whom he recorded a version of the song Si Es Amor now with an arrangement of Gaita Tamborera to be included on the album Rock and MAU Vol.2, at the end of the same year, returns to the recording studio and begins the compositions, arrangements of the songs that will be part of his next album.

In 2016, a social and political crisis broke out in Venezuela that forced the artist to postpone launches, tours and many projects, as a result of this conflict, there was a great migration of Venezuelans abroad; Now, his audience is scattered in many parts of the world and for the first time he presents his songs on stages abroad, giving recitals in the cities of Miami - US, London - UK, Saint Christophe d'Allier - France. In the month of August, the single Alberta premieres, with the participation of two great musicians and countrymen, Jazz Double Bass player Gonzalo Teppa and Traditional Cuatro virtuoso Edward Ramírez, key pieces adding a new color to the music of Alfred, a more acoustic incarnation of soul, with brush strokes reminiscent of the great tradition of singer-songwriters like James Taylor or Bill Withers.

On March 13, 2017, releases Espiral, his most recent studio recording. After five years of his latest album release, these new songs were received with great pleasure by the audience. Produced together with Max Martínez, with the special participation of veteran musician and singer-songwriter Guillermo Carrasco, one of Alfred’s top musical references, with whom he composed and recorded the song Siempre Escucha. In short, this is an album that brings together great Venezuelan talents such as Gonzalo Teppa, Edward Ramirez, Boston Rex and Manuel Rangel among others. In his blog review of the album, the journalist and writer Gerardo Guarache wrote “And in the midst of so much noise, resisting the tyranny of bad taste, emerge works that bring back faith, like those rebellious weeds that grow between the fissures of the asphalt and tell the world Yes. Espiral represents a step forward in Alfred Gómez Jr. as a composer. It is the soundtrack of a deep journey.”
