"Alice and the Glass Lake – Higher Video"

If you’ve never heard Alice Lake, be prepared to get addicted, and don’t say we didn’t warn you. Alice is a Brooklyn native by way of Wisconsin whose upcoming Evolution EP is due out June 11 under the moniker Alice and the Glass Lake. The lead single from her new release, “Higher”, is catchy as hell and comes along with a gorgeous video to boot. As I am writing this now the video, which premiered two days ago, has 684 views on YouTube and I’m quite confident in saying that at least a couple hundred of those are me. Well I may be exaggerating a bit, but you get the point…THIS SONG IS LIKE CRACK! If you’re heading to Bonnaroo like we are then you’ll have a chance to catch Alice down on the farm in a few weeks, but if not you’ll just have to watch this video a couple million times until she comes to a city near you. - Maimed & Tamed

"Must-Watch Music Videos: Alice And The Glass Lake Takes Us ‘Higher’"

Recently featured as one of Pigeons and Planes 12 Female Artists You Should Know, Alice and The Glass Lake is dreamy pop music layered in the sonic dream world of Alice Lake. The imagery she uses in her songs is borrowed from the glassy Wisconsin lakes of her childhood. The artist, now based in NYC, has proven to be both unique in her songwriting style and versatile in her ability to make shapes appear out of nowhere (and shapes are awesome). Her music harnesses all the greatest things about escapism and the surreal way in which you have to marry that to reality; it is, in her own words, “the lens through which [she] lives her dreams.”

The new video for ‘Higher‘ blends vibrant instrumentation with smooth seductive hooks and a forceful delivery. At its core, ‘Higher’ is a performance video. It showcases Alice Lake’s implicit relationship to her music and her past and the way she can draw you in and make you experience something too. It’s all in her performance. She can rest in the melody then erupt into the hooks, bringing into focus a simple yet powerful music video.
You’re going to be hearing a lot from Alice and The Glass Lake in the coming months. With more new tunes and an EP on the way, she’ll also be performing at little festival this summer known as Bonnaroo. For more information on all things Glass Lake, check here. - Tubefilter

"Alice and the Glass Lake – Higher"

Alice, of Alice and the Glass Lake is going to be the cosmic pop Queen of 2013.

From the first twinkling notes of Higher, you know your breath is about to be stolen. Glittering rainbows rise from her lungs and climb further than the skies. She paints a picture with sound; it’s lush, alive and full of nature. The most beautiful colours drip from musical notes that linger in the air, magical spells waiting to burst.

Her inspiration comes literally from witnessing the beauty of a lake shimmering at sunset. She translates this into her music with ease; a projection of her soul.

A dreamer from Madison – but living in Brooklyn – her first EP, The Evolution will be released on June 11. As if to celebrate, she’s playing at Bonnoroo on June 16. - Repeat Button

"RADAR: Alice and the Glass Lake"

Alice and the Glass Lake is the musical stage name of Wisconsin-born, Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter Alice Lake. It is also that space between real and imagined, she reflects, "the lens through which I live my dreams. It’s an escapist place of possibility and heartbreak. And it’s a sonic space to become lost and find truth." Big concepts, big ideas. So it's only fitting that Evolution, the June 11 debut EP from Alice and the Glass Lake, be an equally expansive musical canvas for Lake's imaginative and dramatic art/popping electronics. Evolution's five tracks balance grand progressive themes with the bold strokes and vibrant palette of more modern plugged-in artists like Imogen Heap and the more ambient leanings of Snowblink. Songs like aptly titled "Luminous" (stream below) and the just-released "Higher" mesh electronic orchestration with a strong rhythmic undertow, Lake's soaring vocals the ideal vessel for traversing the Evolution's opulent melodic structures. Watch the video teaser for "Higher" below... - Direct Current

"Video Premiere: Alice & The Glass Lake - "Higher""

Alice & The Glass Lake is a project from Brooklyn musician Alice Lake, and her forthcoming EP The Evolution is filled with the kind of hazy sounds you might associate with a place called Glass Lake.

In anticipation of the album’s release, Lake has released a video for the single “Higher.” The video was animated, directed and edited by Rodriguez Joglar, and its unearthly feel is an apt visual representation of the song’s sound.

Crawling. Standing. Walking. Running. Toes against the pavement, wind rushing you forward. Deep breathing. Feeling your insides. Heart furiously beating, ready to escape your chest, no desire to clutch it back in.

Alice and the Glass Lake

Hometown: Madison, Wisconsin
Most Recent Release: The Evolution EP—(May 28)
Sounds Like: Aurora borealis, if it was sound instead of light.

Alice Lake is on the brink of something big, that's the overpowering sense channeled through her voice, delivery and lyrics on the first single "Luminous" off her forthcoming debut as Alice and the Glass Lake. The Evolution EP is a five-song offering that feels introspectively focused and outwardly celebratory. The experience of being outdoors is palpable in Lake's soaring voice, which is one of those that reveals something deeper in it's intensity, in its looped reflections. Emotion and landscape run through a double helix in her delivery and poetry, as layered vocal effects and booming drums create a backdrop just drastic enough to escape dramatics. - Pigeons and Planes

Bio

Alice Lake was raised in Wisconsin where she spent years finding inspiration and solace amongst the trees. It was after a North woods trip to one place in particular, nicknamed The Glass Lake, where Alice’s vision appeared clear in her head. It is there where she would eventually uncover her true voice.

It wouldn't be until years later though—after experiencing the world through travel and earning a degree in biology—that Alice would return to the lake with a head full of stories and a readiness to manifest them into song under the moniker Alice and the Glass Lake.

Now based in Brooklyn, NY, Alice and the Glass Lake serves as the vehicle for her escapist vision. These melodies, inspired by echoes through the trees, speak of life’s honest reflection in the water while hinting at the surreal. Alice has emerged as a honed artist with a clarity and voice completely unique to herself.

Alice released the Glass Lake’s debut EP titled The Evolution this summer during her set at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The record, along with a performance-based video for single “Higher,” have been met with crystalline reviews calling her music “otherworldly” and predicting Alice to be “the Cosmic Pop Queen of 2013.”
