"Mora with the Golden Gun"

PRESSQUOTES -selection- 'Mora with the golden gun' (translated from Dutch):
November 2007, OOR (NL):
"Highway to hell is a wonderful final track of a convincing album, which soul mates like Goldfrapp and Björk would love to have made themselves".

November 2007, De Morgen (B):
"Her live show is musically in really good order"…"Engine of love can compete with the most seducing side of Roisin Murphy"…"Alice Rose reveals a natural flair that compels respect".
December 2007, Cutting Edge (B):
"The songs on 'Mora with the golden gun' sound harmoniously and each sound is exactly at its place"…"Already at its first listening session, this albums takes you on a trip. It's been made with love, which you can clearly feel"…"It's a mystery why this lady hasn't conquered the world yet".
December 2007, Glamcult (NL):
"The blond whispers seductively while she wraps the listener around her finger"…"Rose knocks Björk and Goldfrapp for six."
December 2007, Kindamuzik (nl)
"Alice Rose sounds like a raw version of Björk or a more handsome sister of Peaches… She always convinces live on stage."

October 2007, Politiken(DK):
"There are not a lot of women on the Danish electronica scene whose wordless universe seem to appeal more to male musicians but Alice Rose, who's album “Mora with the Golden Gun” is out now, is a good example of a female musician in that field. Vocally Miss Rose sounds like a mix of PJ Harvey and Beth Gibbons with a vocal that changes between sighs and screams. There is femme fatale potential and fine inventions in the music.”

December 2007, Information(DK):
“ the album hides a strange, sometimes appaling, funky, extreme and melodic designed electropop... Avantgarde disco that some might call hysterical and artistic and that definitely seems fresh and inventive. She plays the viola, celle, glockenspiel, toys, uses noise and combines electronic and acoustic instruements.

"Tales of Sailing Press quotes"

Alice Rose - ‘Tales of Sailing’ (Tender, White+Red)2006
Selected press quotes UK-G-NL update 12-12-06

March 2006, Ron van der Sterren /3voor12 (NL)
“An album like gold leaf. Portishead in a German way with a Danish tongue.”

March 2006, Hans van Lissum / Fade Out mag (NL)
“Alice Rose wanders around in a fairy-like twilight zone between folk and electronica.. (…) The wonderful ‘Schön ware es’ is as soft as fluff and contains ticking and cracking rhythms over an analogue bass. It is a foretoken for the rest of the album: lo-fi common or garden electronica full of samples, little bells, harmonica, noise and atmospheric strings. It sounds lose, brittle and sometimes almost accidental, but it is far from that. ‘Tales of sailing’ is an album like an intimate secret, but you have to hold your breath while listening to it.”

April 2006: Lancashire evening telegraph (UK)
“A cross between Björk and Kate Bush, this adds to the fairly short list of Danish recording artists. At times it’s too experimental and too quirky but there are traces of early Cocteau Twins in there somewhere. An acquired taste.” (John Anson)

May 2006: Buzz magazine (Wales)
“Appropriately, Alice Rose is Danish, which means she’s almost a Viking and therefore more qualified than anyone to sing about sailing. Which she does, at length, in a dreamy, breathy voice, over quirky and soothing musical noise, comprised of apparently anything she could get her hands on. It’s like a record Alanis Morrissette might make, if she had any semblance of imagination, and probably the prettiest album you’ll hear all year.” (****SD)

July 2006, Job de Wit in Nieuwe Revu (NL) (‘Tales of sailing’ Cd of the week)
“Alice Rose languishes like Beth Gibbons (Portishead) and is a fairy in the style of Alison Goldfrapp. ‘Tales of sailing’ evokes the image of a little boat floating on a windless sea, under a bright sky full of stars and a singer sitting at the front bow with her songs about love. This album is all about the atmosphere and sound, with Alice’s voice playing the leading part.”

July 2006, VPRO/3voor 12 (NL) (‘Tales of sailing’ Disque pop de la semaine)
“The 13 tracks contain lots of soul, tension and darkness. You could call Alice Rose a clumsy version of Massive Attack, but she’s certainly more than that. ‘Tales of sailing’ is far beyond the experiment. Rose is looking for her boundaries, but bears in mind that the windowcleaner should be able to sing along too while he’s standing on the ladder. The electronica completely serves to the intimate atmosphere Rose creates. I can see her walking around at North Sea Jazz 2020 with her laptop under her arm.”

August 2006, 3voor12 review by Job de Wit, Silent Disco gig @ Lowlands(NL)
“Alice Rose is a wayward, unpredictable artist with an intriguing voice you must have seen at least once.”

August 2006, www.fileunder.nl
“You could call Alice Rose ‘laptop folk’, but there should be a better name for a singer/songwriter who creates songs with a laptop instead of a guitar. Her voice is her strongest trademark. Rose sounds like a crossing between Roisin Murphy and Bjork with a naughty touch of Alison Goldfrapp. Like a soulful, playful angel…
Full of hankering desire and sultry seduction, Alice Rose sneaks under my skin. “

September 2006: review ‘Tales of sailing’ in Oor (NL) by Theo Ploeg
“Rose experiments with rhythms and melodies. The crispy songs are very diverse but they are connected by her beautiful, whispering voice. The typical image of ‘Tales of sailing’ is an enthousiastic Rose with red cheeks sitting behind a large table covered with instruments throwing off one song after another.”

December 2006: Spex Magazin, Germany:
“This gifted solo entertainer has amped up a few parties recently, using only her voice, Casio synth, viola and, not to miss, her cowboy hat... The charming lo-fi electronica is rooted in folky songwriting and a voice that hums, whispers, and screams––singing that is unchained and emotional... Alice Rose has a virtuoso way of telling her intimate tales.”

Alice Rose

Style: Electro-pop, trip-hop, indi-electronica, dance

Hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, Alice Rose plays and sings beautiful, mesmerizing and thoroughly modern music that captures the essense of the old world and the new. Her one-woman performances, her stunning vocals, her jugglers skill using samplers, computer, beat boxes, strings, casios, keyboards, harmonicas and toys--all come together in a delicious concoction of electro-folk--equal parts trip-hop, pop, electronica and dance. She is a true adventurer in the music world today and is constantly exploring new grounds.
Ms. Rose’s musical journey started at an early age with violin and voice lessons, church choirs, and heated sibling sing-offs whose winner would be exempt from weekly chores. One day she found a discarded 4-track recorder and, after removing a jammed tape, she began to compose and record her own music. Soon after, she completed her first homemade album, a collection of songs which she released on casette tape in 1999.
Since then, Alice has produced a fair amount music both on her own and with a number of prominent electronic musicians.
Her 2007 album, -Mora with the Golden Gun- was released in Denmark and in the Benelux, and 2009 the rest of the world followed.

2007 also saw the light of her concept album/art academy masterpiece, 21 Days. An album containing original material as well as cover songs by Dolly Parton and Daniel Johnston. The album was written and produced in 21 days during the winter of 2007, and the artwork is beautifully crafted into a 49 page booklet containing drawings and lyrics.

Alice is currently finishing work on her next studio album, Daydreamer, co-producing with producer and musician John Parish(PJ Harvey, Goldfrapp) from Bristol and studio wizz and techno/electronica producer Gabriel Ananda(Cologne). You can look forward to a beautiful, melodic indie-pop album in 2010.
