Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Eris.
VoyageLA: Thanks for sharing your story with us Alicia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Eris: I started recording music at ten years old. I played over 100 live shows by the time I decided to record my first solo EP at age 14. This past year, I released my debut album ‘Universoul’ with the help of an amazing producer named Dane Diamond. At the same time, I published my first poetry book, ‘Heaven is a Mansion in the Stars’. Since then, some amazing opportunities have opened up. I’m just really enjoying creating everyday – back to playing live shows. I’ve got a few upcoming projects I’m really stoked to share.
VoyageLA: We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Eris: Music is probably the most consistent, rewarding area in my life. I think everyone faces personal struggles. For me, music has been an outlet to navigate through all those things. Any setback on the way to where I want to be is just a lesson to grow from. I truly believe in my vision. With hard work and good intentions, whatever is meant for me will come my way.
VoyageLA: We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Eris: I am a multi-genre singer/songwriter. The genre varies depending on the project and who I’m working with. I am a storyteller at heart. It’s always a joy writing for other artists and helping them bring their vision to life. What sets me apart from others is I’m not afraid to step outside of the box. I don’t feel the need the put a label on the art I create.
VoyageLA: What were you like growing up?
Eris: I started singing from the moment I could speak and was always interested in finding outlets to express myself. I got into theater at five years old. From there, I started doing commercials and TV/film projects. In elementary & middle school, I had a lot of friends but I was more interested in staying in and writing stories & songs. I wrote my first song at around age 5 – it was about shoe shopping. I laugh about that now and like to think my writing since then has a bit more depth. My parents say I’ve always had a strong personality. I was overly critical of my own singing and acting even as a young child. My mom has a video of me doing a cover song at eight years old while having a meltdown because it didn’t sound perfect to me. I find it ridiculously hilarious now and it’s a good reminder to be kind to myself in the creative process. - VoyageLA
