"Nebraska Mondays"

That was a great show. Both Thin Air and Lipka and Yaffee's duo brought the thunder.

Casey and Alicyn's sound continues to be honed and developed, as evidenced by their performances at Luna's. The show this past week was no exception. The duo continues to mix their vocal stylings with a personal take jazz standards (a'la Monk and Wayne Shorter). This week they added special guests on both trumpet and backing vocals for select tunes (unfortunately, I didn't catch the guests' names). The scene is lucky to have this pair of improvisers continually exploring their art for our ears. (Was that cheesy?)

"Sacramento State Vocal Jazz Group Rocks The House"

"Alicyn Yaffee took the lead with the ensemble’s second song, “Don't Be On the Outside.” While Vang’s voice had been powerful in more of a gospel sense, Yaffee’s voice reminded me of a more classical jazz voice, the kind I’d hear in a black-and-white movie." Miriam Arghandiwal - SACRAMENTO STATE HORNET

"ALICYN YAFFEE/Someone Else"

Oh, please don't go thinking this adventurous, dexterous guitar gal is an art chick just because she can hit them to all fields. Certainly a today kind of release in touch with today's audience that wants more than beats, she melds jazz and punk without it becoming punk/jazz and offers lots of meat on the bone. A diverse outing with energy and ideas to spare, you can start out thinking it's some kind of experimental, clubby folk/jazz kind of thing but you better be ready to let this music take you where it will. Well done. - Midwest Record

Bio

Alicyn Yaffee is one of the next generation of talented and inspired young jazz musicians to come out of Northern California. Now based in New York City, Alicyn's debut album, "Someone Else," features all original songs that exude the pensive intensity and lushness of artists like Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell.

Alicyn recently toured Europe with Becca Stevens (Nationally Acclaimed Vocalist and Winner of " Rising Star Vocalist" in Downbeat magazine). As a solo artist, Alicyn has performed  at renowned New York music venues, including; Rockwood Music Hall; The Bar Next Door; Fat Cat Music; Carnegie Hall; The Drom and Bowery Electric. In summer 2019, Alicyn acted and played guitar for the Classical Theater of Harlem's production of the Bacchae. Alicyn is now a PRS endorsed artist!

Alicyn  is a rare bird among young guitar players. She has a soulful style, emphasizing tone and feel over flashy technique, while at the same time possessing considerable harmonic knowledge and a good deal of prowess on the fretboard.

Alicyn wrote, sang and played guitar on every song of “Someone Else,” her debut solo  album. Recorded and mixed by Josh Connolly and produced by Benny Rietveld,  the album features Cindy Blackman Santana, Pepe Jimenez, Jeff Cressman and Ronnie Foster.  Wooing  listeners with her lush vocals and passionate guitar work,  Chris Spector of Midwest Record wrote of Alicyn’s debut album, “a Diverse outing with energy and ideas to spare… Well done.”

"She is definitely a multi-faceted artist, and it will be exciting to see where she goes next!"
                 - Benny Rietveld (bass player and Musical Director for Carlos Santana)

"Yeah, Alicyn!! What a cool and wide ranging album.. everything sounds great... killing!"
