"The result is a beautiful album which flies over the memory of the great Pacheco."

Al-Zarqa is one of the last albums chosen by Mario Pacheco for his label, Nuevos Media. (Mario Pacheco, Impala Outstanding Contribution Award 2010, died last November 26)
Belief is not far to create. Pacheco believed in the generating force of flamenco and enhanced believe in the creation of new sounds and gave them visibility. In Al Zarqa album, Egyptian guitarist Ali Khattab plays with the similarities and differences between Middle Eastern music and Flamenco sound. Flamenco rhythms and modes as solea, seguiriya, taranta, tango and rumba meet their arabic relatives, the traditional maqamat, hijaz, rast, nawaathar or nahawand. The result is a beautiful album which flies over the memory of the great Pacheco. - El PaĆs

"Egyptian flamenco guitarist Ali Khattab proposed the most effective approach to Arabic music"

Extracts
"The Essence of the
Mediterranean music, especially in
the passages free of rhythm, where
almost everything is a pure improvisation
by three virtuosos"
"A work in which, perhaps for the
first time, we can talk about
fusion, not juxtaposition of
these two music styles - flamenco and arabic music -, because
fusion occurs naturally in
individuals, here in the person named Ali Khattab. - Diario de Sevilla

Bio

Born in Cairo in 1977, Ali Khattab started learning to play the guitar from age eleven, but his real drive and almost obsession with the instrument started after his discovery of flamenco two years later.
A journey he undertook at the age of twenty took him to Jerez de la Frontera, where he met influential guitarists, singers, hand-clappers and dancers who introduced him to the real world of flamenco.
Inspired by actual and medieval Andalusian music, Ali made his first venture into composing, creating a new path where Oriental music meets Flamenco.

Theyve said about Ali Khattabs music:
