Bio

When Alisha Zalkin takes the stage, her powerful vocals and sincere lyrics take her past experiences and thrust them into the present. She knows how to deliver a performance that will freeze you in your tracks. This is likely because she’s been familiar with show-stopping moments since she was a little girl.

Alisha’s musical quilt is patched by her Jewish and Mexican heritage, which are sewn together through the commonthread of music. The Mexican side of her family showed her at an early age the sacred power of music, setting aside background chatter and side conversation to pay homage to Ave Maria whenever it played at family gatherings. Already learning the unifying power of music, Zalkin carried this with her, authentically exuding it in her debut album “March to a Different Beat.”

She’s done just that, fusing together traditional influences and non-traditional influences to form her identity. To no surprise, Zalkin has always gravitated towards breathtaking female powerhouses like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Carole King, and Gloria Estefan. Also evident is the message of Bob Dylan and Bob Marley, as her words spread positivity while acknowledging the weight of life’s struggles. Her non-traditional influences continue to stem from her family background, including her Jewish grandmother, who was the youngest person to be admitted into the Vienne Conservatory of Music, but lost her chance to become an opera star when Hitler rose to power. She performed theater as an active member of the HADASSAH, a women’s organzation aimed sustainability of Jewish culture.

Just as her family and these influences have paved Alisha’s musical path, she is now doing so for others, and casting an even wider net. Alisha uses her music to make a difference in the world, actively involved in non-profit organizations that advance her as an artist, and spread a positive message for each organization.

“Music has so much potential to impact a person’s life” says Zalkin. “I want my music to shed a light on the amazing mission of causes that are making a difference in the world.”

Her grandmother’s example left an indelible mark that Alisha has always carried with her. The release of her EP is no different as Alisha will be donating proceeds of her album to The Playing For Change Foundation, an organization that connects the world through music.
