Bio
Coming from a musical family, it was no wonder that Alison Jennings' favorite toy at age 4 was a tape recorder. She would make up songs and sing them into the recorder and also give sermons on "Jesus, and liberty, and all that stuff" to her pretend audience. Music is in her blood and always has been.
Alison Jennings is Miss America. Not literally of course, but she has lived in 11 states and 16 different cities. This has tremendously impacted her music as she has lived in various areas of the country. Country music is apparent in her roots but the Beatles and rock have also made their way into her influences.
Alison has had her share of ups and downs and her songs clearly denote these. Marrying at the young age of 19, having a baby at 20, and divorcing at 22 were huge milestones. It was during this time that Alison found she still had an urge, a burning desire inside of her to pursue music. Life had other plans. At the age of 22, a college student and single mother, Alison began a very long law suit involving members of her college's football team. Alison has been on shows such as Dateline NBC and Greta Van Susteren speaking out on behalf of survivors of sexual assault. She has been the key-note speaker at two "Take Back the Night" rallies; one at Montana State University and the other at Central Connecticut State University. Alison believes that if we start communicating about what is really going on in this country, only then can we begin to heal; both individually and also as a national community.
Shortly after her law suit was over, Alison found her way back to music. She bought a guitar and taught herself how to play enough to write music to the words she had been writing for years. Deep in her heart she knew that music was who she really was and she needed to get back there.
After a few years in Seattle, Alison moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue her lifelong dream of singing and creating music. (well, and to get out of the rain) Currently she is hoping to write country music for other artists meanwhile writing her own material which she plays at venues around the Los Angeles area. She hopes that her songs and the stories behind them will inspire, heal, and uplift people. With her passion for music and her passion for people, she is doing just that...
