Bio

?Stabled in Detroit, String Of Ponies is the musical expression of Alison Lewis and a revolving, evolving string of musicians from Detroit, Philly, Chicago, Colorado and beyond. Her songs tell the story of an American girl who grew up just outside of Detroit, picked up the guitar, and hit the road. Lewis began writing songs in the van she called home. From the coast of Oregon to the Appalacian Trail, she honed her skills and began sharing her music around campfires, on city sidewalks, in dive bars, clubs, roadhouses and festivals.??In the summer of 1999 Lewis found herself back in Detroit where she immersed herself in the music scene and shared it through the city's Folk Collective. It was then that she recorded and released her first solo effort, "Hideaway".For the next several years Lewis turned her focus to a new project, "The Twilight Babies" in which she recorded 3 records, won a few Detroit Music Awards, all while continuing to write, perform and collect songs for her own solo venture.??In 2006 Lewis recorded her second solo record "Hum" and promptly hopped on a plane to Europe and The UK where she toured extensively with philly-based folk rockers "Maggi, Pierce and EJ". Upon her return to The States she set sail on Jam Cruise 5 where she shared the bill with the likes of Patterson Hood (Drive By Truckers), Railroad Earth, Karl Denson, Aaron Nevill, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more.??In 2009 Lewis released her first full band recording, packed up once again and headed for the mountains in Colorado. Gigging in roadhouses and collaborating with cowboy's, Lewis collected material for her next EP, "Heart Like a Horse", recorded in Deer Isle., Maine with swamp rockers Hymn for Her backing her up. She spent the following year touring with Hymn for Her from LA to NYC and everywhere in between, until once again she heard her stomping grounds in Detroit calling her back home...??In 2011 Lewis and her String Of Ponies wrote and recorded her latest release, "Hurricane Millie", with legendary producer Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders in Detroit. She is a member of The Inside Outlaws Writers Collective alongside Up-and-coming superstar Ty Stone, Don "Doop" Duprie, and other great Detroit singer/ songwriters.??She describes her last batch of songs as "autobiographical fiction". It seems that being back admist the big city/ small town feel of Detroit has ironically been like a return to that meadow where creativity grows lush and thick among family, friends and influences.
