"Pull The Anchor"

Alison Notkin is an aspiring musicologist and singer-songwriter based in Montreal. Her "Pull the Anchor" takes a fresh twist on the familiar convention of a spurned lover choosing the sea rather than face a former beau. With its female protagonist, the song uses the evocative imagery of the anchor being hauled in to suggest the end of the romantic relationship. The McDades included a terrific version of the song on their Juno award winning album Bloom. - Sing Out! Magazine

Alison Notkin is a singer/songwriter with great guitar chops and an endearing song writing style. Steering clear of cliche, she combines elements of pop, blues, folk, jazz and groove music to create a fresh yet familiar sound.

Recent attention Alison has received includes the publishing of her song Pull The Anchor in the Winter 2008 volume of Sing Out! Magazine, a veteran folk Magazine dedicated to preserving and supporting folk music writing. Pull The Anchor was also recorded by The McDades (Alberta) and included on their 2007 Juno winning album Bloom. Alison was involved in Folk Alliance Montreal 2005, and her song Three Steps Down The Line was featured on its 2005 promotional CD. Her song Say When can be found on the 2002 Sony/Epic Records compilation Shekinah, 13 Artists.

Alison has performed her music solo and with groups in venues across Canada and in the Eastern US ranging from coffee houses to sold-out audiences at the 1200 seat Berklee Performance Center. Recent performances include solo shows in Montreal, Quebec and Edmonton, Alberta.
