"TAXI review"

"...[the] vocal is appealing and the melodies and playing are really strong... It's current but has an original twist with the female perspective and the acoustic style verse." - TAXI review

""...GREAT MUSIC!""

When you listen to the music of Alison Wood you can and should enjoy it for what it is – GREAT MUSIC! However, being someone involved in the music industry having heard countless bands over many years, I sometime look for things that are hidden or, sometimes, simply not there – but I find them anyway!

When I listen to Alison’s music, in addition to her obvious talent and the uniqueness that creates her own sound, I can also hear more! Her sound reminded me of, I thought, someone that I just couldn’t put a finger on. But the more I listened it came to me; I couldn’t put my finger on it because it wasn’t “someone” but, instead, a combination of several incredibly talented women in music. Within Alison’s music I was able to find the heartfelt storytelling ability of Natalie Merchant (of 10,000 Maniacs), a simplistic perfection that is found in some of the lyrical content of Amanda Palmer (of The Dresden Dolls) and a bit of the attitude and projection of Deloris O’Reardon (of The Cranberries).

A New Jersey native, Alison Wood is now residing in a Boston suburb where she becomes inspired and writes her catchy and quite enjoyable material.

I strongly suggest giving Alison Wood a listen! I feel you’ll enjoy what you hear!

"A Perfect Balance"

Warm vocals that caress and cradle each and every poignant lyric balance perfectly over Alison's canvas of very light but deliberately firm acoustic guitar. - Chris Hickman

Bio

In her career to date, Alison's work has encompassed both music and theater; the musical 4AM is her first venture combining these as a writer. After graduating from Harvard with a degree in Dramatic Literature, she worked in professional theater for several years as director, teacher, actor, and stage manager. From there Alison shifted her focus to music, writing and recording two albums and playing live shows with her band in Boston and New York. Recently she's been adding film to the mix as she's taken a break from performing to focus on her writing and other creative efforts.

In 2006 Alison released her first full-length album, At Arm's Length: a pop-rock disc with a folky soul. Her sophomore effort, Fairytale Endings Aside (Nov. 2007), represented a return to the piano playing of her childhood and a step forward into a more soulful expression of the melodic pop sound established on her debut. Her focus on pairing intelligent, empathetic lyrics with catchy pop melodies has earned her notice around the greater Boston area and NY/NJ, where she enjoyed her music-filled childhood. She's brought her warm, energetic stage presence to such venues as Club Passim, the Paradise Lounge, the Knitting Factory and the Lion's Den, and her songs can also be heard on iTunes and Internet radio station Pandora.

Now Alison's excited to be getting to know Austin, TX, the live music capital of the world. She's new to town, but looking forward to seeing what the music scene really has to offer (in addition to the awesome honky tonk). Watch her calendar for dates to start popping up around Austin.
