Mississippi native featured on national recording artists world-wide distributed release

— In pursuit of securing a record deal and becoming an acclaimed recording artist, Mississippi’s own Alkendria Nicole Leggett is one step closer to turning a lifelong dream to reality.
Her formative years were spent in Collins. Members in the congregation and choir of Providence Missionary Baptist Church immediately recognized her gift of song when Leggett was 6. As she matured, she would often be encouraged to follow her voice down the path it would lead. She later traveled and sang with the Covington County Mass Choir. However, the issues of life began to creep in and eventually forced their will on her desire to sing professionally. The course of her life would change, temporarily.
Leggett was equipped with a magnetic personality, and during her high school years, she received many awards and accolades from classmates. By the time she graduated in 1993, she had been recognized as wittiest in her class as well as Miss Collins High. After high school, personal challenges had almost stripped her of what many had been convinced was her purpose and calling in life — to sing. As fate would have it, however, Leggett would unexpectedly overcome years of instability once she decided to challenge her comfort zone and leave her nest of security.
She eventually packed her bags and relocated herself and two children to Houston, Texas. It was in Houston that the landscape began to change in favor of the Mississippi native. After being encouraged to enter a local talent contest by a young lady in the city that befriended her, Leggett walked away with the third place trophy and her rekindled passion to sing.
This year, the homegrown songstress, has amassed an impressive and growing list of cameos and guest appearances. The most prominent is the recently released CD from the award winning female rap artist Tragedy. This nationally distributed project, through EMI, has finally positioned Leggett for her first solo debut.
Houston based SGR Music Group is planning to follow up the success with the first R&B project from Leggett, appropriately and humbly titled “Thank You.” She is planning a live hometown release of the CD in the spring of 2007.

RHYTHM AND PRAISE ARTIST PREPARES DEBUT RELEASE: Southern Gospeltality Records artist Alkendria releases CD on July 3rd.

Rhythm and Praise or R&P as it has been termed, is the energetic and uplifting form of Gospel music that has the sound and appeal of the mainstream, but offers in addition, an inspiring message of faith and hope by way of the Good News. It replaces the blues in R&B with praise, hence R&P.
Houston is again at the helm and appears to be preparing for the takeoff of R&P. This time the field is being led by a host of faith-filled female vocalists including, Grammy nominated Shei Atkins, stellar award winner Kim Burrell, Nikki Ross, who currently sings with Kirk Franklin, and Southern Gospeltality Records recording artist, Alkendria.
Alkendria is a spirited singer and talented songwriter from Collins, Mississippi. To fulfill her passion and aspirations of writing and recording professionally, she ultimately had to overcome many personal setbacks early on. Although the issues of life temporarily stalled her ambitions, she credits her faith in Christ and pure tenacity for helping her reach the turning point in her life and career. After relocating to Houston, TX in 2001, the landscape changed in her favor.
Rap music incidentally, opened the initial doors of opportunity for the passionate songstress. After signing to Southern Gospeltality Records in 2002, Alkendria belted out powerful hooks for the label's rap artists and projects. Her persistence and patience paid off and she is now preparing her inaugural R&P release appropriately titled, "Thank You." The CD will be available Tuesday, July 3rd.

After lending vocal support on female rap artist, La Toya “Tragedy” Burns', EMI distributed release Princess Cut, the spirit-filled singer from Mississippi is set to take center stage. To celebrate, Alkendria's debut CD “Thank You” will be released in stores, Tuesday July 3, 2007.
The singer currently records and resides in Houston, TX where she relocated in 2001. She returns home often to visit family and friends and asserts,” it was the experiences during those formative years growing up in and around the Collins, Laurel and Hattiesburg area that fashioned me into the woman I am today”. Alkendria further adds, "My debut project is a heartfelt and sincere collage of all the bittersweet events that have led me to this point in my life". She shares that the goal of her debut project is to package a collection of work that will penetrate hardened hearts and make a positive and lasting impact into the lives of those who listen.
The debut CD features blazin' production from Stikk, Christopher Priest, and B from 4Sight Sounds. "Thank You" also boasts masterful post production from the skilled hands and keen ears of Sammy Huen of Global Audio Sounds.
