Biography

ALLAN BYER - CENTRAL OREGONS EVERYMAN SINGER/SONGWRITER

Its heartening to encounter an Artist that takes his role in the world, his voice and his vision, seriously, who dares to imagine that art can matter in the unglamorous world of everyday survival, and that the every day world bears artistic expression. One such artist is Central Oregon singer/songwriter guitarist Allan Byer.

For over 25 years Byer has crafted his songs of love, wonder, pain and hope with power and eloquence. He can comment on the spiritual search or poke fun at fast food or political injustice with equal ability. Always grounded in compassion for the human condition, at his best, Byer reflects back to us our own struggles to envision the world as it could be. At the core of his work is a profound reverence for life and the gifts of this world. He explores the possibility of seeing the world as it is and not losing heart.

His latest album, Money Talks Too Much, does just that with 17 finely crafted songs speaking about the world as it is while offering a vision of what it could be. Dean Prescott, Mirror Time Records, produced the album and plays lead guitar and percussion behind Byer. Ed the whistler Sharlet adds his unique skills whistling and singing harmonies. Kim Lakehomer adds tasteful flute and penny whistle on five cuts, and Byers daughter Halla makes her professional debut singing on two songs. while long-time partner Matt Engle adds lead guitar on Falling Down. Selections from this album can be found on internet radio stations: www.mediapositiveradio.com and www.positivemusicassociation.com POZ radio. This is a rootsy all acoustic album.

The Bend Bugle says, Allan Byer and his group provide a night full of originality and character. Bend Bulletins Andy Whipple says of Byers debut cd, He delivers a pleasant surprise. Soul Song by Allan Byer 4/8//01
Progression: Am G F G quick shuffle

verse 1/chorus
I’m just a travelin’ ray you see. I’m out floating around.
Never stay too long, I’m free. And I’m lost until you are found.
I’m the whisper in the wind. I’m the silence before the sound.
I’m the one you’re alone with. When no one else is around.
(two times thru chords, bar them?)

I’m the one you’re looking for. In the dead of the night.
I’m the one you could have been. If you hadn’t lost your sight.
I’m the part that’s good enough. Even when you don’t believe.
I’m the part that’s bigger than. All the lies you can conceive.
(two times thru chords, bar them?)

I’m the pain before the blow. I’m the lock before the key.
I’m the answer before you know. Don’t run away from me.
I’m the song before you sing. I’m the tear before you cry.
Make a prayer. Let it ring. Don’t you know you can never die.
(two times thru chords, bar them?)

I know the answer before the question. I know the image before you see.
Reach out, Take my suggestion. I’m the one you long to be.
I’m the seat of your soul. I’m the spark of your life.
Trust me. Give me control. I can lead you back into the light.
(two times thru chords, bar them?)

I’m the answer to your problem. I’m the one who can help you much.
Your loneliness is just a symptom. I’m the one who can teach you to touch.
But you got to slow down to listen. And you have to take the time.
You’re the life I’m here to christen. Everything you want is mine.
(four times thru chords, Guitar Solo)

verse 1/chorus revised w/ coda

I’m just a travelin’ ray you see. I’m out floating around.
Never stay too long, I’m free. And I’m lost until You are found.
And I’m lost until You are found. And You’re lost until I Am found.

Falling Down

Falling Down by Allan Byer 1/23/05

No one knows the bad things inside of me

Keep them hidden; Don’t want anyone see

From the outside I look like just another guy

So half my life has been a “look good” lie

chorus
It’s a long way down
When you see the ground.
No nets around when you’re Falling Down
Seems like I’m always Falling Down
Catch Me - I’m Falling Down
Standing on my knees - I’m Falling Down

There’s a song inside me trying to be born

It’s about trying times and lives that may be torn,

Just a rhyme only a few people may ever hear

How do I express emotions greater than fear

(chorus)

Imagine there’s a light shining under your door

All you need is Hope to catch a little more.

It’s Love I saved for you. You can’t Walk before you Crawl.

We all need something soft to break that Certain Fall.

Heard that song about Eliza’s dad
Made me happy, then it made me real dam sad
Easy Rider she called her father that day
made me wonder what my own old man might say.

Just before she passed, “something I must tell” she said
I was twenty six and living way too fast
Still I searched a couple years, then let it pass.

chorus (Chorus: A C#msus A Bm sus2)
There’s a part that’s missing in me
Whose seed I came from, someone I’ll never see.
Where are you Father, where are you, Dad?

Where are you Papa, where are you Dad?
I think of you, the Dad I never had.

Questions for God 3/1/2005 by Allan Byer

verse 1
I got Questions for God. I got Questions for Me.
How do I live in this world
Trying to be free? Just trying to be me.
You better learn to laugh. Don’t Worry about Cry.
Life is too damn short.
Then you get old and die. Probably won’t say Good Bye.
chorus
It’s Ok. Said it’s all right. Someday you’ll understand
How the puzzle (pieces) fits just right.
verse 2
Heh what’s the ticket? What’s the price?
How much do I have to pay?
To get some good advice? More here than meets the eyes.
It takes You. It takes Me.
It takes us altogether.
Then maybe we’ll see What the world can be.
repeat chorus
verse 3
What about People? What about Strife?
What about war and Death?
And the mysteries of Life? In the One Big Soup of life.
We are different. Yet We’re all the same.
We’re all Rainbow Colored,
But we’re in the same dang game. How ya gonna stay sane?
repeat chorus
verse 4
How do I love in this world? What is right?
How do I seek the answers?
Where is the light? Where is Hope and Delight?
Connecting w/ the Divine (Source) Is the most important thing.
Doesn’t matter what you call it.
Or How you let your Spirit sing. Peace is what Faith will bring.
verse 5
Is it a riddle? Some cosmic game?
I know we’re all connected.
But how do we stop the Pain? Like trying to stop the rain (train).
Control your Anger. Hold back the rage.
Seek and Know the Truth.
Maybe you’ll come of age. Learn to turn the page..
