"Review of the new rap/hip hop band All the Best Kids @ the Velvet Lounge last night"

So as the title suggests, I saw All the Best Kids last night. Apparently this was only their second show, but were f'n amazing. They have sort of a rap group meets indie rock band sound and their music was loud and grooving. There was a bassist, a drummer, a guitarist and a pop/rock synth guy who did some rocking synth work. Then they had a front man rapper with these loud aggressive rhymes with a ton of heart and who would occasionally sing at a chorus. Then there was tall skinny white hype man (fun to watch) who raps, does the "yeahs" and "ahs", and then sings soulfully at the choruses or lays down some soul under the rap.

They did mostly originals, but then did a cover at the end that really tour the roof off the bar. At one point the lights guy turns out the light during an orchestrated pause in the music and the turned it back on right when the aggressive base/drum lines started back. Most of the crowd at one point had their fists up in the air screaming for more. I haven't been that excited at a show since I saw Rage (can you tell I like Rage?) back in the day.

Anyway, I don't know if/when they will do another show. They seemed to be just getting started and without a full play list or many planned shows. But if anything I said gets you excited, check them out. - Reddit

Bio

All the Best Kids unites six talented musicians from across the East Coast and Mid West to blend together hip hop and rock. Formed in early 2012, the band uses their different backgrounds to create music with a positive message. Some of their influences include Jay-z, Pink Floyd, Rage Against The Machine, Roy Ayers, Maria Carey, The Notorious BIG, De La Soul, The Flaming Lips, and Modest Mouse. With such a wide and varied background, their music sounds fresh enough so that its a brand new sound, but familiar enough to remind you of something you love. Come fully hydrated. Their passion and energy will keep you moving the entire show.
