"Meet Allura"

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allura.

Allura comes from a very diverse background of music, dance, and theatre. From the age of 3 until the present, Allura has danced contemporary modern and jazz with ballet as her discipline. She was also a principle dancer, actress, and singer in a plethora of performances with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Allura discovered her talent while singing in the IMPACT Youth Choir at the Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.

Growing up, she always knew she was different. While girls her age were playing with Barbie dolls and Nintendo DS games, she was writing song lyrics and short stories. While girls wanted to be fairytale princesses, she aspired to be like Raven Symonè who is also a very diverse artist. Due to her mature mindset and distinct differences, Allura faced adversity at an early age. Not only did this make her stronger, but it contributed to the bold, beautiful, and fearless woman she has become. On the journey of becoming who she is, Allura lost herself in the expectations of society.

Instead of following her own dreams, she chose the safer option, which was going to college to earn a degree and becoming an independent, successful woman with no creativity. Allura graduated from the Texas Woman’s University at age 20 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech and Language Pathology. With the support of family and friends, Allura is currently living in Dallas, Texas, pursuing her life-long dream of becoming a professional singer. Her goal is to impact the lives of her listeners through the meaning of her lyrics and to empower women.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming an artist has certainly not been a smooth transition. It is definitely more difficult than it looks. The most difficult part of this journey has been finding people in the industry that are genuine, trustworthy, and have your best interest at heart. Making music is not as simple as it seems either. Spending 12+ hours in the studio taught me that. Recording is a very detailed process that requires more than one listener to make sure every take is perfect.

Please tell us about Allura’s World.
Allura is my artist name which later helped develop the social media handle @itsallurasworld. Allura’s World started out as just a social media handle but is slowly becoming a clothing line and a management company. I am known for my sexy afrocentric style, original tone, infectious personality, and my first single “What’s the Move” from my upcoming EP “Happy Birthday to My Ex” which can be downloaded and streamed on all major platforms.

As an artist, I am most proud of how quickly I navigated through the industry and made network connections organically, although I am pretty awkward. Because of my ability to network, my single, “What’s the Move” is already receiving radio time in neighboring states.

I graduated from high school with my high school diploma and my Associate of Arts degree. After graduation, I attended Texas Woman’s University and completed my Bachelor of Science in Speech and Language Pathology in just two years at the age of 20, however I still decided to pursue music. The fact that I am scholarly and an artist is what sets me apart from others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child was participating in Whitney the Musical with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters honoring my favorite artist.

"Dallas Singer Spreads Her Lyrical Wings"

A new voice is here and it belongs to Allura. The 21 year-old Dallas native has such an original tone and there is absolutely no denying her infectious personality. Both her music and her charm are here to stay.

Over the weekend, Allura debuted her first single from her upcoming album “Happy Birthday to My Ex.” The single - “What’s the Move” was well-received at a private launch in Dallas. The upbeat, yet mellow riding out anthem poses a fun theme of what energy and what vibes are you offering for the night?

To accompany the debut song, Allura also revealed a visual for “What’s the Move” over the weekend. The video features the artist and two of her girlfriends, sipping and contemplating plans for the night. The single can be downloaded on all major platforms.
Believe it or not, Allura began her music journey just over one year ago. “I’ve been singing my entire life,” says the singer. “I grew up singing in church and at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters Summer Enrichment Program.”

Allura is incredibly humbled by the great reception she has received in an ever-so tough music industry. While she has indeed accomplished so much in such a short amount of time, she insists that she’s only getting started.

“This time next year I see myself signed to a major label and constantly booking shows.” - Ari Christine
