Allyssa Jones is a musician's songwriter with songwriter/soul roots and classical/jazz training. Her upcoming CD '35' follows the moods of a diva: playful, pissed-off, powerful.

Biography

Allyssa's music reveals traces of her parents' unbiased musical tastes; it was common for her to hear James Taylor and Stevie Wonder in one sitting. Although trained in classical piano and voice, it was Allyssa's later introduction to jazz and world music that would inspire her artistic aesthetic. The result of this melting pot of influences is an eclectic, soulful sound laced with clever lyrics and musical twists.

Born in Chicago, Allyssa’s jazz dates featured sought-after players such as Steve Million and Neal Alger, and high-profile events, including the Women of Southport Jazz Festival. Now based in Boston, Allyssa has played in venues from Johnny D's to Riverside Theatre Works. Her work has garnered honors in the Billboard International Songwriting Competition and a place among Boston Magazine's "40 Bostonians to Watch".

Daughter's Dance

Written By: Allyssa Jones

Sun shines sweetly,
But I can’t see anything but your face.
Rain washes over my head,
But all I feel is your space-
Empty since you left me
Wondering where you have gone.

Moonlight gleaming through
Stillness, charming my senses awake-
Voices echo through hallways,
Singing my every mistake-
What could I have done?
Was I any comfort at all?

This is the dance,
A daughter’s dance.
This is the dance
Of daughters.

This is the dance,
A daughter’s dance.
This is the dance
Of daughters.

Sleeping peacefully, asking quietly
For one more day.
Knowing more than I wanted,
Knowing life happens this way-

This is the dance,
A daughter’s dance.
This is the dance
Of daughters.

This is the dance,
A daughter’s dance.
This is the dance
Of daughters.

Extra Girl

Written By: Allyssa Jones

Find the color you were missing
Feel a different way of kissing
I am a new toy, a change of scenery
A shiny thing with angels' wings who gives you what you need
But I bleed
And every time you leave, I"m unblinded
I'm reminded

I am additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies' breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

Hold me in your mind for years
Finally we are standing here
I am the gold prize, the lottery
A perfect thing with eagles' wings who sees all that you see
But I cry
And every time you hide, I'm unblinded
I'm reminded

I am additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies' breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

I have a history of doing what is wrong for me
And this is one of those things
But as with history, I'm repeating constantly
And I don't want to
But I hold on to

Additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies' breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

Additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies' breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

You can't make me cry anymore
I've got myself together
I'm finally fine like porceline
Clear like crystal
Steady like stone
I'll be just fine on my own
I'll be just fine

Painted Lady

Written By: Allyssa Jones

"Baby girl, this and that
Goddess, queen, this and that
You are a rarity, there's no one in the world like you," he croons.
She swoons,
While I'm begging her to stop.

Ah, painted lady
Your face is the only thing that they see
Ah, painted lady
Standing in for me

Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, hmmm
(repeat)

Dance with me, this and that
Stay with me, this and that
"How will I make it through the night
without the sight of you?" he croons.
She swoons.
While I scream for her to stop.

Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, hmmm
(repeat)

His mind is on something
That is the seed of something
That could turn into something
That just might look like love
But she is sure of one thing
That he can find nothing better
And so I let her
Fall-----

"I'll be here, this and that
Have no fear, this and that
Dry your eyes. I will be the on who brings the sun to you," he breathes.
She leaves
Her instincts at the door
My heart falls to the floor

Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, hmmm
(repeat)

14 Jeans

Written By: Allyssa Jones

I'm average, or so they say.
So why try to shrink myself away?
Nearly killed myself living too lean
All to fit in some size 6 jeans.

At 5'7", the scale should say
About 50 pounds less than what I weigh.
But I can't imagine losing half of me.
Ain't I a dream in these 14 jeans?

"Cause I can run and strut an dance,
Melt a heart in just one glance,
Close a deal, make a crowd go wild-
Why try to look like a boney child?

Ask my friends and family,
Talk to each and every guy I see,
There's nothing wring with any of me.
Ain't I a dream in these 14 jeans?

I've got a news-flash for the world:
We owe our lives to average girls!
Turn the pages of history-
It's who you are, not what they see!

So when you read a fashion magazine,
See a movie, or watch TV
Don't you judge your reality.
Just be a queen in those 14 jeans.
Make them all scream in your 14 jeans.
You are a dream in your 14 jeans!

Magic Habit

Written By: Allyssa Jones

I don't wanna hang up the phone
I don't wanna get on the plane and go home
Just wanna stay here with you
All day, all night 'cause it feels right
Baby, baby!

Don't know how to color my love
Don't know what to call what I'm feeling inside
But I'm addicted for sure
Just know that you've got me crown to toe,
Line and sinker, sayin'

Please, work that magic
You know you're stringing me like a real bad habit
I really wanna leave, but you've got me rabid
You've got me just,
"Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh- come and get me!"

We might not make it I know
Or we might do this the rest of our lives
There's only one guarantee
I'm here, you're here, and we love our thing,
Baby, baby!

I'm always gonna shed tears
You're always going to reason things out
As the days roll into years
Whatever we become, we'll always have our time together, sayin'

Please, work that magic
You know you're stringing me like a real bad habit
I really wanna leave, but you've got me rabid
You've got me just,
"Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh- come and get me!"

I've always conquered my world
But you helped me conquer my core
Don't know what I've done for you
But it must be something baby,
'Cause you can't let go either, sayin'

Please, work that magic
You know you're stringing me like a real bad habit
If you ever leave, babe, it would be tragic
You've got me sayin',
"Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh- come and get me!"

Please, work that magic
You know you're stringing me like a real bad habit
If you ever leave, babe, it would be tragic
You've got me sayin',
"Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh- come and get me!"

Captured

Written By: Allyssa Jones

Here is my room
Here is the window
See the passersby carrying dreams from my heart in their arms
What is today?
What is the hour?
What is the reason
this season has me on my knees

Searching the heavens for answers,
Sifting my way through your words
Reeling, stealing my way
Through my dreams
It seems

That you captured me so easily
You captured me so easily

Watching you go
Feeling it drifting
Hanging on with my hands and my lips and my words and my mind
Knowing it's wrong
Knowing there's better
But not believing
I'm receiving the truth in my ears

I hear it clearly in your voice
Feel it so deep in my soul
But I keep lying,
Denying what's coming to be
I see

That you captured me so easily
How did you capture me so easily

Why? How?
What now?

When you captured me so easily
How did you capture me so easily?
You captured me so easily
I'm watching you leave me so easily
