Allyssa Jones crafts soulful, sultry jazz-flavored pop- like Sarah Vaughan on a Sheryl Crow kick. Her current cd '35' in in rotation on radio stations nationwide.

Biography

Allyssa's music reveals traces of her parents' unbiased musical tastes; it was common for her to hear James Taylor and Stevie Wonder in one sitting. Although trained in classical piano and voice, it was Allyssa's later introduction to jazz and world music that would inspire her artistic aesthetic. The result of this melting pot of influences is an eclectic, soulful sound laced with clever lyrics and musical twists. Born in Chicago, Allyssa’s jazz dates featured sought-after players such as Steve Million and Neal Alger, and high-profile events, including the Women of Southport Jazz Festival. Now based in Boston, Allyssa has played in venues from Johnny D's to Riverside Theatre Works. Her work has garnered honors in the Billboard International Songwriting Competition and a place among Boston Magazine's "40 Bostonians to Watch".

Lyrics

Painted Lady

Written By: Allyssa Jones

“Baby girl,” this and that,
“Goddess, queen, “ this and that
“You are a rarity. There’s no one in the world like you,”
He croons. She swoons
While I’m begging her to stop

Ah- painted lady! Your face is the only thing that they see.
Ah- painted lady! Standing in or me.
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha, hmm

“Dance with me,” this and that
“Stay with me,” this and that
“How will I make it through the night without the sight of you?”
He croons. She swoons
While I scream for her to stop

Ah- painted lady! Your face is the only thing that they see.
Ah- painted lady! Standing in or me.
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha, hmm

His mind is on something
That is the seed of something
That could turn into something
That just might look like love
But she is sure of one thing,
That she will find nothing better
And so I let her fall---

“I’ll be here,” this and that,
“Have no fear,” this and that
“Dry your eyes. I will be the one to bring the sun to you,”
He breathes. She leaves
Her instincts at the door
My heart falls to the floor

Ah- painted lady! Your face is the only thing that they see.
Ah- painted lady! Standing in or me.
Ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha, ah-ha, ah-ha-ha
Ah-ha, ah-ha, hmm

Kiss & Run

Written By: Allyssa jones

Spill it, baby
Say what’s on your mind
Why don’t you just spill it, baby?
Say what’s on your mind
Because you had me thinkin’, honey
Thinkin’ we were doin’ fine

Kiss and run
Kiss and run
You don’t know what you’ve done
When you’ve done that kiss and run
I’m not responsible for what happens now
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby, with that kiss and run

Am I too much to handle-
Too hot for your ‘too cool’?
I said, am I too much to handle, baby-
Too hot for your ‘too cool’?
Because you got me feelin’, honey
Feelin’ like a natural fool

Kiss and run
Kiss and run
You don’t know what you’ve done
When you’ve done that kiss and run
I’m not responsible for what happens now
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby, with that kiss and run

Don’t bring the bitch out
She’ll make you wish you never called
I said don’t bring my inner bitch out
She’ll make you wish you never called
You’ll be walkin’ funny, honey
No, you don’t want that at all

Kiss and run
Kiss and run
You don’t know what you’ve done
When you’ve done that kiss and run
I’m not responsible for what happens now
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby, with that kiss and run

Kiss me
Kiss me
Kiss me ‘till I’m done,
But don’t you do that kiss and run
I’m not responsible if you pull that nonsense now
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby, with that
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby--
Go ahead, have your fun
But be careful, baby, with that kiss-- and run!----

14 Jeans

Written By: Allyssa Jones

I’m average, or so they say
So why try to shrink myself away
Nearly killed myself living too lean
All to fit in some size 6 jeans

At 5’7” the scale should say
About 50lbs less than what I weigh
But I can’t imagine losing half of me
Ain’t I a dream in these 14 jeans?

‘Cause I can run and strut and dance
Melt a heart with just one glance
Close a deal, make a crowd go wild
Why try to look like a boney child?

Ask my friends and family
Talk to each and every guy I see
There’s nothing wrong with any of me
Ain’t I a dream in these 14 jeans?

I’ve got a newsflash for the world:
We owe our lives to average girls
Turn the pages of history
It’s who you are, not what they see

So, when you read a fashion magazine
See a movie, or watch TV
Don’t you judge your reality
Just be a dream in those 14 jeans
Make them all scream in your 14 jeans
You are a queen in your 14 jeans!

35

Written By: Allyssa jones

Look in my eyes
Nothing to hide, no secrets
This is the real me, baby-
Take me, leave me, I will be okay
Not out of need
I’m offering these feelings
It’s what I’m seeing, honey
Something in you makes me weak

Makes me think
Makes me sink
Deeper and deeper in love with you

I’ve got-
10 ways to make you happy
10 things I need from you
Give me 15 minutes to show you
Love is alive at 35
A life you can’t imagine
Waits in my arms for you
Let me let you know that I know you
Love is alive at 35

How will you know
If you don’t go there, baby?
‘Cause if you go there, maybe
You will find what you’ve been looking for
Take it from me
It can be oh, so lonely
Living for just you only
I know you know what I mean

This is real
Don’t you feel
Fire burning between me and you?

I’ve got-
10 ways to make you happy
10 things I need from you
Give me 15 minutes to show you
Love is alive at 35
A life you can’t imagine
Waits in my arms for you
Let me let you know that I know you
Love is alive at 35

Rampage

Written By: Allyssa Jones/Collin Sapp

Starter gun, shot one we begin to run
Round and round and round in a wheel
Same race, just chasing our tails again
Trying to fill a hole where we used to feel
Passion. Ambition.
Ignition still on!

On a rampage
Feeling all of my rage
Burning up a new page
Fire! Fire!
On a rampage
Ain’t about what you say
Move it outta my way!
Fire! Fire!

It’s a lame-assed game I don’t wanna play
Not if it’s my soul you wanna steal
“Alice, drink this.” “Liza, put this on.”
This is who I am, you’re gonna have to deal
With me. The real me.
You can’t see? Too bad!

On a rampage
Feeling all of my rage
Burning up a new page
Fire! Fire!
On a rampage
Ain’t about what you say
Move it outta my way!
Fire! Fire!

Hear me saying,
“You can’t break me!”

On a rampage
Feeling all of my rage
Burning up a new page
Fire! Fire!
On a rampage
Ain’t about what you say
Move it outta my way!
Fire! Fire!

Extra Girl

Written By: Allyssa Jones

Find the color you were missing
Feel a different way of kissing
I am a new toy, a change of scenery
A shiny thing with angels’ wings who gives you what you need
But I bleed
And every time you leave, I’m unblinded
I’m reminded

I am additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies’ breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

Hold me in your mind for years
Finally, we are standing here
I am the gold prize, the lottery
A perfect thing with eagles’ wings who sees all that you see
But I cry
And every time you hide, I’m unblinded
I’m reminded

I am additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies’ breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

I have a history or doing what is wrong for me
And this is one of those things
But as with history, I’m repeating constantly
And I don’t want to
But I hold on to

I am additional, ancillary, tangential, complimentary
An extra girl
Like babies’ breath and heather and silence filled with talk of weather
An extra girl

You can’t make me cry anymore
I’ve got myself together, I’m finally
Fine like porcelain, clear like crystal
Steady like stone
I’ll be just fine on my own.
I’ll be just fine.
