"Metaphora Quotes 2008"

“Miles Black and Tom Keenlyside are two of Canada's foremost musicians. Their musicality transcends categories as displayed on two of their latest CDs.
"Metaphora" showcases the virtuoso ability of all the players. The arrangements are cutting edge in the jazz genre.
This CD is on repeat mode on my CD player.

Bio

Skywalk alumni Tom Keenlyside and Miles Black have combined musical forces and have forged the modern mainstream jazz project Altered Laws. Following the widely acclaimed first CD “ The Outsiders”, their second CD, ”Metaphora” , offers a new, rich and varied pallete. Soulful melodies interweave with intricate arrangements and masterful improvising in this latest journey. With the wonderful contributions of Melody Daichun on vocals and the Babayaga String Quartet, Metaphora explores the expansive compositions of Miles Black and Tom Keenlyside.
Miles Black is widely acknowledged as one of the finest jazz pianists in Canada. His solos are passionate, driving and developmentally brilliant. He has been a featured performer with Lee Konitz, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Houston Pearson, Chuck Israels, Kenny Wheeler and many more.
Tom Keenlyside has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Harry Connick, Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, Pat LaBarbara and Brad Turner to name a few. He has been called one of the finest flute players in jazz today, and is equally at home on saxophone.
Bassist Miles Hill continues to amaze, and propels the band with his intense and deeply grooving bass playing. He has played with Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Daniels, Oliver Jones, Don Thompson and JUNO winners Fraser MacPherson and PJ Perry.
The musicality and inventiveness of drummer Bernie Arai has made him first call among Westcoast percussionists. He has performed with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ingrid Jensen, Phil Dwyer, Slide Hampton, Seamus Blake and many more.
