"James Brown's Legacy Continued"

"The Godfather of Soul might be gone, but his legacy lives on tonight in Fremont. Watch for feverish covers from the seven-piece Altered States of Funk, Fresh from their sold-out New Year's performance."

(In regard to the James Brown Tribute and benefit for the James Brown Music Foundation that took place at Nectar Lounge in Seattle on 3/3/07) - Seattle Sound Magazine

""Best Soul/R&B Band, 2006 Seattle Weekly Music Awards""

Having band members named Mr. T, Moose, Low End Theory, Funk Doc, Sasquatch, and Da Funkscribe means you best be one funky band, and Altered States of Funk definitely pull it off. With each one exploring their own little improvisational niche, Altered States of Funk achieve jams that are equal parts Southern soul and hip-shaking grooves. They made audiences get on their feet at Nectar, EMP's Liquid Lounge, and Tost. Throughout the month of May, you can catch the band at 9 p.m. Wednesdays in the Musiquarium Lounge above the Triple Door. BRIAN J. BARR - Seattle Weekly

"Music's good and best of all, free"

"Everett's waterfront series features Altered States of Funk Thursday. The band won the Soul/R&B category of Seattle Weekly's 2006 music awards poll.

The seven musicians feature tight arrangements, rhythms and grooves, screaming horns and original songs, as well as nicknames such as Mr. T., Low End Theory and Sasquatch. For ASF, it's the music and the message. Bring your dancing shoes."

"Bumbershoot 2005"

"Local funkmeisters, Altered States of Funk laid down some stone grooves, man. There was a serious moment when lead singer Winfield Ezell Jr. took time out to acknowledge the tragedy in New Orleans in a freestyle spoken word jam."

Bio

Altered States of Funk are the NW's premier ORIGINAL funk band. Original music, tight arrangements, and filthy funk are the center of this 8 piece funk mob. They have brought their unique brand of the groove to sold out audiences for over two years now. The base of their musical gumbo is pure FUNK, with flavors of soul, jazz, and hiphop. In 2006 they were voted Seattle Weekly's #1 Funk/R&B/Soul group. They continue to tear the roof off of clubs and festivals throughout the NW in a quest to continue the legacy of the funk.

They have played Chop Suey, The Tractor Tavern, Nectar Lounge, The Triple Door, EMP, the 200,000 person Bumbershoot festival, and many other major clubs and festivals throughout the greater Seattle area.

They draw their influences from funk heavyweights such as Sly & The Family Stone, Prince, The Meters, Ohio Players, Zapp, Tower of Power, and Parliament Funkadelic (In fact- 3 members of ASoF boarded the mothership to play in the backup band for George "Dr. Funkenstein" Clinton and the 420 Funk Mob!).
