Bio

Formed in the early-mid `90s in Charlotte, NC, the Alternative Champs started out as a side project for a group of super-tight friends who happen to be musicians as well. To get away from the constraints and seriousness of their ‘real bands’ the quartet began making strange and often funny 4-track recordings. This soon led to a live gig at the Klondike Café in Boone, NC where two of the members attended college in November 1993. Eventually the live show grew into more of an event with themed costumes like auto parts counter guys, or mall walkers, or even softball coaches as they played around the Southeast. Eventually this caught the attention of Chuck Morrison of MoRisen Records in Charlotte, NC who singed them up in 2004. From there the Champs recorded their first full length album entitled ‘Welcome to Fort Awesome’ which immediately cracked the CMJ charts and received substantial airplay on college stations across the country. Several Champs songs were featured in the television show ‘Wildfire’ and in movies like “Waiting’ and ‘Employee of the Month’. One year later the Champs released thirty-seven of their old 4-track recordings on a cd entitled ’37 Steps to Emotional Healing’ which is on course for attaining cult status among the college campus stoner crowd. Next up for the Alternative Champs is focusing on writing and recording their next cd as well as touring and hitting some of the bigger festivals where they are sure to thrive.
