"FooManChoo Reviews: AlterTone"

The Foo is very sorry for the delay in this particular review. It's quite embarrassing how an entire summer of music, day jobs and well life in general can slip away with a person. Well ok, and maybe some halloween too!. But the Foo is not perfect, he's just trying to be fun. It's a lot like this spicy little dish Foo's serving up right now.
Russell Blalack aka, "AlterTone" plays and records tunes that are both simple and complex at the same time. From a crawl through his website it's apparent that his focus is somewhat split between pop music and writing for film. A Jack of all trades, he seems to play guitar, drums and everything else via midi.
The sequences and drum work sometimes organic and sometimes boarder on the heavier dance beats. The mixing work is varied throughout his catalog. The more sequencer heavy things being more naturally balanced out and the former a bit more rough in terms of levels and such - but not much.
There are many small treasures in his sample jukebox. Ranging from drum and bass to orchestral arrangements, the music really does have a large amount of variety and character, often telling a story.
The Foo is very happy to see all the video examples on AlterTone's profile page. Love some of the tracks that are like mini movies, lots of small scenes with the music changing every time, matches the scene very nicely every time.
Foo's not crazy about his leading motto, "..shape the music to the audience ear". For the Foo, It's more like he's shaping his music to the eye. None the less, this very creative artist is very good at what he does.
