Experimental, Middle Eastern, sludge metal-punk

Al-Thawra is a dynamic, Middle Eastern-influenced, experimental, sludge-crust punk band from Chicago, IL. The trio’s music is truly innovative musically and theoretically, combining the harsh, grimy sounds of the punk underground with electronic textures and traditional Middle Eastern instrumentation. This is the sound of Taqwacore.

As one of the founders of the Taqwacore subgenre, their work has been featured in such international media outlets as Rolling Stone, NBC Nightly News, BBC, Al-Jazeera, New York Times, Newsweek, Bidoun, Nox Magazine (Jordan), and many others. Additionally, the band is the subject of an upcoming documentary by EyeSteelFilm, and appears in soon-to-be-released, indie feature-film, The Taqwacores.

Notable performances have included a 2007 East Coast tour with the Kominas, as well as being part of Taqwacore showcase at South By Southwest 2009.

They are currently working on a follow-up to their debut, full-length album.
