Feeling a bit camera shy

Front woman Althea's single (Wake Up) has been featured on University radio station (CJSR), Breakfast Television and Vancouver's premiere indie station (Coop Radio) on two shows The Lesbian show and Blue Monday of which she has been a regular guest.

She has also been a featured performer for The Kaleido Family Arts Festival, In The House Festival, and Hulbert's singer songwriter/vocalist showcase and a Coop Radio fundraiser.

Summer of 2008, they embarked on their first successful tour to Edmonton and played three venues to packed houses nightly. Their live shows are infectious and will have you dancing in the isles.

They have played a handful of shows in both regions and look to expand that network. Now she takes more time to pursue a sound recording career and focus on a pre- production for an ep.

Old skool influences are: Tracy Chapman, Nina Simone, Cassandra Wilson, Ella and Stevie Wonder. Modern influences are India Arie, Jill Scott and Me'shell.

By night she hangs upside down in trees and when the blood rushes to her head she writes poignant song about :love, relationships, loss and social issue. Often in childhood you'd find her playing the rythmn on most things in sight including her mothers behind...and she brings that same energy to the stage. Her vocals are smoothe and her animated presence is sure to leave an imprint on your soul.

Summer of 2006, she decides to hit the streets, cafes, clubs and has'nt missed a beat since. From that The Althea Cunningham Group (jazz & blues) was formed and one year later the Althea Cunningham Duo Original (Soul & R& B) music was born. As a youngster her parents brought home an eclectic mixture of music which influences her style of writing today. This classically trained vocalist has developed throughout many art forms. Her career sees her work in theatre, music, film and television. She plans to release and debut project with original music entitled "On The Verge." I'm in the studio recording two more songs at the end of April.
