In An Ordinary Day

Written By: Alwyn Figgins

In An Ordinary Day

It is almost always just an ordinary day
You do what you can and hope that you are blessed
You will see and you will hear and you may do some good
You may get some praise if it’s understood
And you’ll turn a blind eye to the not-so-good
But refuse to accuse when you’ve never confessed
To the things you have done in an ordinary day

It is almost always just an ordinary day
You do what you wish and you don’t care about the rest
You will thieve and you’ll deceive and never give a damn
You will steal some praise from wherever you can
And you’ll close your ears to pleas by your fellow-man
Or abuse and excuse when you’ve never confessed
To the things you have done in an ordinary day

It is almost always just an ordinary day
I will do what I can and I’ll pray that I’ll be blessed
I will read and I will write and it may do me good
I may find a phrase that is understood
I will lend you my ear as well as I can
And believe there’s reprieve if I’ve really confessed
To the things that I’ve done in an ordinary day

I Never Thought of Loving You

Written By: Alwyn Figgins

I Never Thought of Loving You

You showed me a beautiful verse
When we passed a dirty subway wall
And later you wrote it down for me
So now I’ll give it back to you

‘I never thought of loving you
But there was nothing I could do
I didn’t even think of you
But the dreams I dream are just with you’

You made it a beautiful day
When we talked and we laughed in a place far away
And later you broke down and cried
And I thought of the things you gave to me

‘I never thought of loving you
But there was nothing I could do
I didn’t even think of you
But the dreams I dream are just with you’

You gave me more than beautiful
When you understood who I really am
If I never write a word again
I can always give this verse to you

‘I never thought of loving you
But there was nothing I could do
I didn’t even think of you
But the dreams I dream are just with you’

But I fell in love with you
‘Cos there’s nothing I could do
And the song I sing is just for you
And the dreams I dream are just for you

A Morning Song

Written By: Alwyn Figgins

A Morning Song

When will you play me a morning song
When will you show me the light in your eye
When will you call me to look at the sky
And when will you know that love isn’t wrong

If ever you hear the Robin sing
Remember to play me a morning song
And I’ll smile at you from the sky

Do you know that your dreams will never die
Do you think you’ll be brave if ever you fear
Do you show what you feel when love is near
Do you wonder why there are times when you cry

If ever you hear the Robin sing
Remember to play me a morning song
And I’ll smile at you from the sky

Will you sing me a song when I’m really old
Will you show me there’s still love in your eyes
Will you think of me when you look at the sky
Will you hold me close if ever I’m cold

If ever you hear the Robin sing
Remember to play me a morning song
And I’ll smile at you from the sky

Can I tell you something

Written By: Alwyn Figgins

Can I Tell You Something

Can I tell you something
Just a word or two
I’ll say it softly ‘cos I’m not so sure
How I feel about you
But come and hold me close
And let your body tell me what I feel

Can I tell you something
Just to let you know
I’ll whisper but I’m sure that you will hear
Like the rivers flow
Part of me has washed away
But I think you bring it back to me

I love to talk with you
And I love to hold you close
I’m scared to let you go
I’m scared to feel too much

But it feels so good

Can I tell you something
Just a thought or so
I’ll sing it gently so only you can hear
Let’s make love but do it slow
If the rivers fill my eyes
It’s for the things you do to me

I don’t know what I’ll do
I don’t know if I want to do
Just tell me what you feel
Just let go and be with me

‘Cos it feels so good

Perhaps it’s time for me to pray
But what is there that I can say
If the rivers now run dry
Has it been another lie

But it still feels good

Desperate at midnight

Written By: Alwyn Figgins

Desperate at midnight

I look at the moon and the stars and they seem so far away
I think of a child who’s learning how to pray
I’m on my knees but I can’t find words to say
I’m turning and I’m burning
And God only knows if I’m learning

‘Cos I’m desperate at midnight
Looking for my heart and soul
But there’s not enough light to see
The fire is burning low
And the moon’s behind the clouds
And time is healing slow
But I can’t let go
Like a junkie doing a line
Or a fool that’s wasting time
I can only pray
But at midnight, I’m desperate
And I can’t find the right words to say

I look at the things in my room and they don’t mean anything
I think of a woman who’s also lost something
I’d go on my knees but would it mean a thing
I’m aching and I’m breaking
And God only knows that I’m shaking

‘Cos I’m desperate at midnight
Looking for my heart and soul
But there’s not enough light to see
The fire is burning low
And the moon’s behind the clouds
And time is healing slow
But I can’t let go
Like a drunk that’s craving wine
Or a brave man holding the line
I can only pray
But at midnight, I’m desperate
And I can’t find the right words to say
