"Brillinger wins Showcase award"

A young blues band that began by jamming in The Still restaurant returned to familiar digs to win the 2008 Youth Legacy Showcase.

The Alysha Brillinger Band beat out five other acts, with members under 21 years of age, to win this year's annual Showcase award, jointly sponsored by the Kitchener Blues Community and Grand River Blues Society.

The band is fronted by Brillinger, a dynamic vocalist who has shared the stage with the Detroit Women and Cheryl Lescom, along with guitarist Brenden White, keyboardist Brian Voll, bassist Matt Cuomo and drummer Ben Graffam.

With the win, the band has the opportunity of recording a song for the 2008 Kitchener Blues Festival compilation CD as well as opening the main stage on Aug. 9.

Bio

With a voice posessing both power and versatility, Alysha Brillinger is a singer/songwriter. Writing with a maturity beyond her 19 years, her pop/soul tunes are touched by her influences of blues and folk. She is driven and expressive, lively and versatile and a powerhouse singer.

Alysha is currently recording a few singles with producer Joao Carvalho in Toronto, while performing around the GTA both acoustically and with her band.

Alysha Brillinger has always been a go-getter, an independent female since she was very young. In a household full of multi-cultural role models, Alysha would lock herself in her room, blast records, sing along, and play the keyboard. Always an energetic child, she would organize shows and perform for family get-to-gethers. This powerhouse knew how to excite people by just singing into a hairbrush.

In the summer of 2005, Alysha recieved a $20,000 grant for winning 91.5 The beat's "Rhythm Of The Future" contest and began to record a demo in Toronto with producer Marcus Kane, who has sold over three million units worldwide. This experience offered great opportunities, such as opening for Juno Award winner "K-OS" at Hip-Hop-Toberfest 2006 and singing in CMW's "Urban Showcase" in 2006. In addition to that, Alysha has performed with The Detroit Women, Douglas Watson and has sang on recordings for Canadian Reggae Musician, SNOW.
