Alysia Harris

I have been performing as a spoken word artist for about 4 years. Influenced by Buddy Wakefield, Rachel Mckibbens, Agha Shahid Ali, and e.e. cummings, I am looking for my work to shake the shit out of you. I write poems for the broken hearted, the faithful and those who bleed every 28 days and like it.Quiet and irregular like the gears of a broken clock, my work is about internal struggle and the inability to come to terms. Hence, I resort to terms, words to lay a clammy finger on what cannot be said and wipe the dust off of what has underlyingly been inside us all. I have been a part of the winning teams of the BNV 2007 Youth Poetry Slam and the 2007 College Union's Poetry Slam Invitational. I was also on the HBO documentary Russell Simmons Presents: Def Poetry Brave New Voices in 2008. After I spit, I want people to come away knowing more about themselves or at least feeling something way down in their loins!
