Bio
Alyson McNamara, B.Mus graduate from Humber College has been
songwriting since a very young age. Past winner of the Mountain Stage
Newsong Contest, she has performed at The Ottawa Folk Festival alongside
artists such as Tanya Davis. She has won the Shelter Valley
Songwriting Contest twice and, in turn, been on the panel of judges.
She has opened for Gregg Allman at The Kitchener Blues Festival singing
with the band Bodice. Hired as a commissioned songwriter
for Premier Dalton McGuinty's Character Education Initiative, Alyson
performed her original work for him and one thousand invited guests at
the official release.
Alyson has been performing with her four-piece band - herself on vocals and electric guitar, Steve Lavery on keyboards, Daniel McNamara on bass and Kevin Richards on drums - for the past five years. Their style is a dynamic combination of rock, roots and singer/songwriter that is both hard-hitting and, with the help of Lavery's graceful synths, ethereal. Their new video series "Jam Diaries" can be found on their website (http://www.alysonm.ca) and it features songs from their upcoming album that is currently in the recording process. Alyson's first album, "Get Yourself Home" can be found in stores at Sound Scapes, Toronto ON as well as Zap Records, Cobourg, ON.
