Biography

I started playing guitar at 16 . First guitar I touched was really wrecked , though of a unique resonance and the dearest to my heart .Obsessed, I tried to establish a new tuning ,stubbornly with no advice of anyone who played guitar .This experimenting lasted for a year , I remember ‘discovering’ chords and their positions ,sometimes with only one finger tapping on the neck , struggling with other chords I heard around or those in my head but simply impossible to be played with my newborn guitar tuning.

I had then the tendency to see other guitarists; this is when my brother started to play, on the same ‘TAMAKI’ classical guitar with the tilted neck.

No expression can contain the collectiveness upon interaction of musicians, the impact of having a gifted musician in the room and storming the moment .This first guitarist was my brother Yasser .

We formed the first line up with another friend coming from Libya . Asir Saad , another gifted guitarist and writer as well I’ve known .We tried the impossible to have Asir stay in Egypt , however we were 17 ,dependant , no one listens to you that much at this age .

We wrote the first of our songs ‘ It’s you again ‘ , followed by ‘ A dream ‘ , ‘Days in hell’ &‘Snapshot romance ‘.Recordings of these songs were lost in my hardisk crash and the “karyunis” tapes .The more Asir was ‘thinking ‘ and writing ,Yasser arguing, the more we were rushing into creating our music .

Drummer Amr El Far and Bass player Khaled Medhat joined the band in preparation of our first concert which took us months and somehow ended up with me and Yasser performing with totally new different persons on stage back on 1998 !! That concert , as any concert for Amadeus ,was puzzling .We played different styles , we moved back and forth with our setup for instruments and singing . New members joining , Wael Nofel as a drummer , Sherif Shawky as a guitarist, later on Eslam Medhat as a guitarist , Basil as a bass player .Up to 2002, we performed as a group not a band , Yasser didn’t want to perform in concerts , Asir was going in and out of Egypt .

2002 , I found the bass mastermind Andrew Samuel .Wael –the drummer – had introduced him to the band and he was only 16, we were all around 21 , 22 years old that time . He is still , ahead and far from all bass players I’ve known .We kept on trying our material and concerts with other guitarists like Samir El Nawawy , other drummers like Mostafa Draz . I kept trying to write other songs with Andrew , we actually worked more on our existing songs until he decided to leave the band .

In 2003, with a big fight in project thesis I finished my bachelor engineering degree, I had this accident , and later on the surgeries so I stopped writing music . I returned back writing ’Zoom ‘ at that time , a sound track for a short movie for director Mohamed Siam .I had to leave Alexandria , and the band was put on hold for a long while .

Up to 2005 , I was trying to fill the gaps in our first album .By that time , completely alone writing for the band and gathering musicians to play under the name of Amadeus as a group . This phase yielded the songs ‘Doubt’, ‘Far away from the edge’ ,’Home of generation’ and ‘Cry me your heart ‘. A sort of a direction in the lyrics appeared in this phase which was emphasizing on the truth of our emotional energy .

In ‘Plague ‘ novel by Kamu , there is a dialogue written highlighting one of the main characters , this person was specifically opposing the ration of time . ‘ So if I am asked ,doctor , to be more focused as we are tight on time , I do all these things that wastes this time , I mostly find the truth of happiness , or at least my happiness this way ‘

Following the years 2006 & 2007 , I was setting pieces for further albums , to plan for 2nd and 3rd album. I wrote six guitar pieces aiming directly at the form of music Amadeus should be playing when recognized .Looking back ,I have this habit where I start writing a piece , leave it for a year, and then come back again to finish it .

We began performing again in Cairo summer ’07 .Yasser had returned again to the band ,we picked up the tune of ‘Paradox’ out of thin stressed air before one of the concerts .

Sony , my youngest brother joined at this stage too beside playing in his band pegasis, giving the most powerful boost to the band till this time .

In 2008 , we had the unfortunate event of losing all the recorded tracks and an accident that I lost all the lyrics I wrote since I was 18 .So we had to record again the tracks, and from memory all my words , the vocal lines , the impressions , the expressions .I wrote the song ‘An outburst’ at that time .

I followed it by the ‘Giant’ , writing it for Yasser before leaving to Switzerland .And went back to finish ‘Paradox’ and ‘Memories in your eyes’.'Seperation ‘ is the most influencing original so far on our audience till our last concert in march 09.
