Bio
AMANDA CARR
Daughter of Big Band vocalist, Nancy Carr and trumpet player, Nick Capezuto, Amanda Carr is a multi-styled vocalist/pianist that has focused on fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook. For three decades she has recorded and performed around the world, adding her own musical gems as well which have received critical acclaim from a tough bevy of jazz reviewers. Her third and latest CD, “Tender Trap”, hit Jazz Week’s top 60 nationwide in 2005. The CD received a stunning 4-stars from All Music Guide and Jazz Review.com donned her “…a first rate vocalist”. Currently, she is starring in “A Tribute to Peggy Lee and Benny Goodman” with the Everett Longstreth Orchestra.
She has headlined at the EuroJazz festival in Italy along with James Moody and George Mraz. Amanda has also composed and performed award-winning music for two PBS documentaries, receiving both a National Emmy nomination and a New England Emmy award. In 1999 she was awarded the Videographer Award by the NTA for excellence in Music Composition in addition to 3 Telly Awards. Ms. Carr has dozens of T.V. and Radio commercials to her credit.
Among her own recordings, her eclectic album credits include composing and performing with the late great Dave Guard from the Kingston Trio on his final album “Up & In” and a featured guest on The Old Vienna Kaufeehaus’ album (the 1st of two) featuring New England’s best folk singer/songwriters.
Amanda returns to Scullers with her quartet; John Wilkins, Kenny Hadley, Bronek Suchanek and Arnie Krakowsky, the same rhythm section of the acclaimed Kenny Hadley Big Band. She will bring these same players into the studio with her this fall to record her upcoming jazz CD yet to be titled.
