Pyjama Girl

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

At sixteen I had princess dreams
I believed that life would be simple
I could eat ice-cream, wear bubblegum jeans
And I still had baby doll dimples
I was a girl growing up fast in the world

And I wore my pyjamas with the elastic coming loose
With stains in the sleeve from spilt blackcurrant juice
I never grew up at all
Cause I’m still pyjama girl

I knew a little more when life knocked at my door
And it opened my heart to a boyfriend
I bought perfume from the store; my heels were 5 inch tall
I wore my hair big and blonde back then
I was a girl growing up fast in the world

And I wore my pyjamas with the elastic coming loose
With stains in the sleeve from spilt blackcurrant juice
I never grew up at all
Cause I’m still pyjama girl

Now when I watch sad movies on the lounge
I got tissues in the pocket of my dressing gown
Cause sometimes I just feel like being a girl

Now I’m further down the line, being a mother’s full time
And some days I don’t bother with makeup
We’ll see these laugh lines, I’m proud that their mine
So I’ll keep drinking life from a teacup

Coming Home

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

Ive been dreaming about you my home town,
thinking about the last time you had rain,
I miss you like the sound of that old back door,
Im heading back to you on the next train.

Where sunshine bounces off your mountain ranges,
and dances last all night at the town hall,
where shooting stars fly across the sky like lighting,
and you get a smile for free at the corner store.

Im coming home,coming home,
back where I belong,
coming home, coming home
open up your arms, I'm coming home.

Theres's nothing like smoke rising from the chimney,
or walking bare foot in the morning dew,
swimming in the creek on lazy sundays,
keep the fire burning, Im coming home to you.

Im coming home,coming home,
back where I belong,
coming home, coming home
open up your arms, I'm coming home.

Bloodwood

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

Five miles out of town, there's a house tumbling down
out front stands an old bloodwood tree
late at night when the dingos full of fight
the mist rises up like the sea

No-one from town, every comes around
they say the old place gives them the creeps
some times in the quiet, when the air turns white
I know how that lonley bloodwood feels

Bloodwood tree, speak to me
I'll listen for your whispers, comin in on the wind
I'll be here, when you bleed
I'll wipe away those red tears that stain your cheek
oh, bloodwood tree,

When the clouds disappear, I imagine I can hear
laughter singing from your bones
I can feel your pain, bruised by the stain
oh bloodwood tree, you stand so alone

Bloodwood tree, speak to me
I'll listen for your whispers, comin in on the wind
I'll be here, when you bleed
I'll wipe away those red tears that stain your cheek
oh, bloodwood tree
oh bloodwood tree

Union Jack

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

Old Jack he fought on the picket line
in the rising up of '48
in his blundstone boots and standard hard hat
he keep the company from the gate

And he told his kids, you deserve a fair go
they tell him Dad it's not the same
down on' the waterfront and in the black coal pit
in office everything has changed

Well old Jack don't take it lightly when he hears
how the working man is going down
cause he believes in honoring your right to work
job security and comman ground

So Jack calls up all his blue collar mates
he says the governments not your friend
and its time to fly the rebel flag
its time for us to rise up again

And he says...
Come on people raise your voice
Come on people you have a choice
Stand up and be counted
and don't let the bastards think the 've one
....says Union Jack

So Jack shelves his retirement plan
and takes up the party call
cause he reckons something's are worth the fight
when heritage stands to fall

Now he's rallying members on the internet
he's got his very own dot com
and the scabs are calling give it up old man
your day has come and gone

And he says...
Come on people raise your voice
Come on people you have a choice
Stand up and be counted
and don't let the bastards think the 've one

Come on people raise your voice
Come on people you have a choice
Stand up and be counted
and don't let the bastards think the 've one
....says Union Jack, says Union Jack. says Union Jack, Union Jack

All Gonna Be OK

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan/Drew McAlister

All packed up and the house is bare
taped up boxes everywhere
his mother takes him by the hand
and he understands
why there leaving and why mum cries
why daddy's not there to say goodnight
and lately things just dont seem right
not like they used to

He' say's mum now close your eyes
hold out you hand Ive got a surprise
I know that your said sometimes
so I wrote this card for you

I'm gonna be the man around here now
I'm gonna hold your hand when your feeling down
I'll mow the lawn and take out the trash
and if things need fixing well I can go that
you dont have to worry we'l always find a way
I love you mum its all gonna be Ok

They moved town, make a brand new start
she meet a man, gave away her heart
they getting married, they making plans
he dont understand
she pulls him close whispers in his ear
youre still my little man round here
gives him a kiss, wipes away his tears
she says I love you
she says now son close your eyes
hold out your hand Ive got a surprsie
I know that your sad sometimes
so I wrote this down for you

I'm still gonna need a man around here now
I need you to hold my hand when Im feeling down
To mow the lawn, to take out the trash
when things need fixing we'll you can do that
you dont have to worry we'll always find a way
I love you son, its all gonna be ok
I love you mum, it's all gonna be ok.

Life Out Loud

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

She's been driving for miles along this worn out patchwork road
emptiness spreads like a brand new map
she catch's herself in the rear view mirror tracing out the folds
creased into the corner of her face looking back
For a minute she forgets about her blackened bandage wrist
when a roadside sign in a front church yard say's how do you live?

Do you live it loud, do you throw back you head with the sound
will you let your heart break free from the crowd,
cause a life lived small, aint no life at all Em
Lord show me now ...to live life out loud.

He's been sitting for hours head in his hans on the bare board kitchen floor
silence fills the cracks between each day
For a minute he forgets about how it all came down to this
when a TV show on free to air says how do you live?

Cause life makes the loudness noise
when its calling out in its strongest voice and wont let another day slip by,
so on and on and on it goes, until the final curtain call, life want to know your willing to try

to live it loud,
and let your heart break free from the crowd
cause a life lived small, aint no life at all
Lord show me now... to live life out loud.

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

Everyones's saying Im to young
for someone like you, who nothin but trouble, you'd break my heart for the fun.

But if your've so wrong, oh why do you feel so right,

cause I know you better, I think you're different we are leaving this town behind.

Dirty Laundry

Written By: Amanda O'Bryan

V1
There’s pretty dresses I never wear and jeans that fit too tight this year
in perfect rows behind the closet door
V2
There’s holey socks and threadbare shirts and the hat and boots he wears to work
in a beautiful mess there on the floor
V3
There’s muddy boots from last weeks and game and little socks lost in the rain
and it’s wonderful how the colours run
V4
There’s faded ribbons on ballet shoes, that got washed in with white tutu’s
and it’s amazing how it all gets down
Ch
So I leave my high heels at the door and don’t wear lipstick anymore
cause I’m sorting out piles of dirty laundry
When I tuck my kids in at night, I hope to God I’m doing this right
Life never goes, perfectly and I’m sorting out piles of dirty laundry
V5
There’s bitter words we’ve said in heat and times when no-one will speak
aint it lovely how it all gets hung to dry
V6
There’s restless nights when I lie awake, holding on so I don’t break
it gets cleaned up with a big old cry
Ch
So I leave my high heels at the door and don’t wear lipstick anymore
cause I’m sorting out piles of dirty laundry
When I tuck my kids in at night, I hope to God I’m doing this right
Life never goes, perfectly and I’m sorting out piles of dirty laundry
