Agin considers the theatre a natural progression that will help him complete his life’s work. For the past twenty years Agin help hundreds of men and women find alternatives and cope with life’s difficult and challenging situations. Agin has conducted individual and group counseling sessions for couples, families, adolescents and former drug addicts. As a counselor Agin has encouraged and motivated men and women being released from prison seek employment, find housing, abstain for alcohol and drugs and reunite with their families.
People always say life is more dramatic than theatre. Agin saw theatre as a way to reach a larger more diverse audience. Theatre has allowed Agin to integrate topics from years of counseling that normally would have to remain confidential. People usually try to avoid counseling like it’s a plague. Counselors aren’t usually appreciated for the work that they do, the sessions are always private and people rarely admit they are counseling. So often people discount the abilities of a counselor saying anyone could give some one advise. Counselors see hundreds of clients in the course of a year while most people that consider themselves the peers of counselors are limited to their family members.
In the play “A man’s gotta do, what a man’s gotta do, Agin is able to talk to several people that might be dealing with or going through a situation. This play may be considered some a counseling session or a ministry by others but everyone will agree that it’s entertaining. Educating through entertainment, this concept is the source of motivation that drove Agin to write and direct this play.
Agin completed graduate programs at Chicago State University and received a M.S. in Criminal Justice and a M.A. in Psychology. Agin also attended and completed acting and writing courses at ETA Creative Arts Foundation.
