"New Band A Good Match For Rock Scene"

For fans of hard rock, metal and punk, A Match for the Curious is, well, a great match.
Mississauga's newest rockers are slated to play a few shows this month in Toronto.
A Match for the Curious (AMFTC) was the brainchild of lead vocalist Brandon Ross and rhythm guitarist Steve Genua, musicians who played together in the band, 22 Ounce Kilo.
Then, "it took us almost a year to find the rest of AMFTC," said Genua, a graduate of Erindale Secondary School.
With members hailing from Meadowale, Erin Mills, central Mississauga and Toronto, the band also includes lead guitarist Kamil Rzeznik, bassist Robin Dworak and drummer Anthony Dell'Orso.
Formed in 2006, the band has been on a lucky streak.
After winning a West 49 music contest, it landed it's first gig at the 2007 Vans Warped Tour in Barrie, sharing the stage with k-os and the Salads.
Its second live gig was a battle of the bands contest in Toronto, where AMFTC won $1,000 and studio recording time.
According to Rzeznik, the band is "a very guitar-and vocal-driven band. Each guy adds his own element."
With throaty vocals and pulsating drum beats and guitar riffs, AMFTC has a sound suggestive of Nickelback, Staind, Incubus and Hoobastank.
The band's influences "range anywhere from 30 Seconds to Mars and A Perfect Circle to '80s' hair metal," Dell'Orso said.
"We're a very diverse rock act," added Genua.
Band members sport impressive resumes. Ross and Genua have played alongside illScarlet, Bif Naked and keepin' 6.
The five rockers will be busy over the next few days, playing two all-ages shows at the Grand Prix Cartways in Downsview Park.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, the band will rock at a Classic Rock Q107 battle of the bands concert.
They'll compete against Panlik,
Zye and Marshall Dane for $1,000 and studio recording time.
Admission is $30 and doors open at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, the band will perform again at Downsview Park, this time for the Rock the Troops event.
Admission is $10.
Net proceeds go to the Canadian Armed Forces and their families. Jets to Ground, The Only Factor and Def Leppard tribute band Rock of Ages are also performing.
Doors open at 1 p.m.
