"Meftah, Drugstore Remedy, Amateur Anthropologist, Mellows @ Tanya's"

BIG UPS TO TANYA FOR GETTN THIS TOGETHER! All acts were ILL.

The night started out with the funky fat beats of Andrew Meftah. His myspace has a modest collection of spaceage-Dilla-G Funk bangers. Live set was great (the dude has some SICK freestyle chops). FUNKY FRESH

Next was Drugstore Remedy--a psychadelic synth jam outfit. Although the recording quality isn't professional, the myspace has some jams on it to give you a flavor of their style. That being said, the recordings don't hold a candle to their impromptu live set. Can you say FLUID FRESH??

Amateur Anthropologist had a really high energy show! They said this was their first basement party--I'd say it was one of their best performances that I've seen. I still have "The Ocean" stuck in my head. Peep their myspace, get their new album and buy a t-shirt or three! We fucking love these guys. And they really got the place BUMPIN!!!!!

Mellows' played their hearts out. They ended the night perfectly. Check their myspace to grab their free demo EP. They're scheduled to begin recording their first LP next week.

"AMATEUR ANTHROPOLOGIST – THE WINTER EP"

Here is a band out of Michigan that would probably be fun to see live. If you like The Von Bondies you will probably like these guys. So far Time to Go seems to be my favorite track. Amateur Anthropologist is an indie/garage/punk band from Dearborn Heights, Michigan formed in January 2009 by Alex Gabriel on drums/vocals and David Paco Rochemont on guitar/vocals/harmonica and joined by Paul Corsi on bass/vocals. Their first EP, “Digging Up Bones, Baby!”, was recorded in Alex’s garage using sub-par equipment run by solar power in the summer of 2009. Their second EP, “The Winter EP”, was recorded over two different late night sessions at a professional studio in the basement of an Italian restaurant. Both EP’s were self-released.They have The Winter EP up as a free download on their bandcamp page, so be sure to check that out. - Music Makes Us

Bio

Amateur Anthropologist is a 3 piece indie/garage/punk band hailing from Dearborn Heights, MI, a suburb of Detroit. Amateur Anthropologist was formed in January 2009 in drummer Alex's living room, with guitarist Paco. With the intentions to form a band, and write and record an album within one month of forming, they quickly burned out. Bassist Paul was asked to join in late March 2009.

Since their humble beginnings, Amateur Anthropologist have played a handful of shows around the Detroit and Ann Arbor/Ypsi areas at venues such as The Majestic Cafe, the Blind Pig, and the Pike Room with a handful of bands, such as Danny Kroha, the Hounds Below (featuring Jason Stollsteimer of the Von Bondies), and Mellows.

Amateur Anthropologist self-recorded and produced their first EP, "Digging Up Bones, Baby!" in Alex's garage late in the summer of 2009 using sub par equipment run entirely on solar power. This EP was self-released in September 2009.
Amateur Anthropologist recorded their second EP, "The Winter EP" over two late night sessions at the end of December 2009, with the help of Tommy, in an abandoned bank vault in the basement of an Italian restaurant in Plymouth, MI. This EP was also also self-released in February 2010.
Both of these EP's are available for free download on their BandCamp page, http://amateuranthropologist.bandcamp.com.

Lately, Amateur Anthropologist has been busy booking shows, and preparing to record their third EP.
