Come a little closer ep Jalapeno Records

Ambassadeurs Biog 2012

The Come a little closer ep in 2011 was the first official release from Brighton based Ambassadeurs. But although that was the first release that you could buy, it wasn’t his most successful. That would be M.O.P.E. the soundcloud hit with 20,000 plays and 4000 downloads which meant even before he had a record deal, he had offers to play in Amsterdam, Poland, Belgium, Germany and the US, and when he played there people were singing along. To a twisted vocal sample that even the original singer wouldn’t recognise.

The south coast beat mechanic (Mark Dobson to his mum) has been quietly amassing a serious following for his releases via his social streams bringing him to the attention of UK indie label Jalapeno who released his debut ep.

Brighton scene maestros Tru Thoughts have been featuring tracks in their radio show and have commissioned a remix as have Fat Cat and Wah Wah 45’s have released an Ambassadeurs remix. So far so good as far as getting his music noticed goes.

The music – well it’s a tough one to pigeonhole but then so is all the best music. A mixture of hip hop, dub, jazz and electronica probably comes closest to a description but really you need to listen to it yourself to decide.

Ambassadeurs has been perfecting his sound since childhood – learning his craft on an 8 Bit Amiga computer (i.e the hard way), and mastering the notoriously tricky Octamed before moving on to other instruments. Although that makes him sound old-school, he is still only 24 but with a sonic maturity beyond his years.

Bass and guitar playing slots in a procession of south coast bands brings us to today where as Ambassadeurs he has performed his live show around the UK and the world including support slots for Gold Panda, Star Slinger and Daedelus.

He starts 2012 as he finished 2011 working tirelessly on new and inventive material for his debut album and seeking like minds, whether clubs, labels, artists or festivals to collaborate with.
