Amberly Thiessen

Biography

Amberly was born in a small town on the prairies of Western Canada into a conservative farm family.The journey she has taken since that day is one that defies all odds, especially considering that the only exposure she had to music as a child was a cappella gospel. When Amberly’s parents parted from the religious community in the 90’s, her knowledge of the music world had a lot of catching up to do. She began picking chords on her father’s guitar in elementary school and her natural talent was quickly made evident to her family when she started composing her own songs.

In the last three years, Amberly’s music career has been fast tracked to an unimaginable place. Just a short time ago she was sharing her gift with close friends and family, keeping her dream to herself, and doing what others her age are usually doing, going to college. Then, during a summer vacation in New York, she began performing acoustically in front of live audiences who were instantly captivated by her vulnerable style and pure vocals. Encouraged by the overwhelming response she received, Amberly made the decision to focus on pursuing a career in music, continuing to write and perform small venues.

In the spring of 2008, on a whim, she decided to try out for Canadian Idol. The experience provided this young musician with unprecedented knowledge of the entertainment industry in a short period of time, opening many doors and opportunities for her. Amberly was the last girl standing in the male dominated Canadian Idol competition and ultimately placed 6th overall. Since the show she has recorded her debut EP, played to 300 people at her CD release party, and opened for the Idol Top 3 Tour of audiences up to 3000 people. Since Amberly is also seen as an excellent role model for children, she has been asked to speak at numerous schools and banquets to encourage and motivate students to pursue their dreams. She is still being pursued for big event entertainment like Canada Day concerts, Festivals, and UFA Conferences and it is not likely to stop. After the short program at Musicians Institute she plans to finish a full length album, take it to Nashville, and gain a larger following through shows and internet exposure.

Amberly is an artist with writing capabilities beyond her years and a voice that conveys the depth of a lyric with exceptional sincerity.
