I am mentioned in this article:

Even compared to Kanye West's usual wardrobe of wacky shades and marching-band jackets, it's impossible not to ogle his latest accessory: a tall, striking, bald woman who shares his fondness for dark glasses, fashion shows, and flashy clothes. It takes a lot to upstage both Kanye and the catwalk, but Amber Rose has managed to do exactly that, appearing out of nowhere to gallivant from New York to Milan to Paris on Kanye's arm in a series of ever-tighter pants that instill in us a new appreciation for breathable fabrics. It's been weeks of this, yet somehow, one burning question remains: Seriously, people, who IS this person?

Not since George Clooney plucked Sarah Larson from cocktail-waitress obscurity has an unknown become so famous so quickly. But where it took about an hour for People and Us to dig into Sarah's background and deem her George's true love, Kanye and Amber have largely escaped the microscope, save for vague photo captions or blog posts. It's little wonder: Googling "Amber Rose" yielded — in order — a listing for a Dayton, Ohio, restaurant; a website for a Christian ministry; an author's site promoting Bee in Balance: A Guide to Healing the Whole Person With Honeybees, Oriental Medicine, & Common Sense; the MySpace page of a musician claiming she was conceived "on the Sunset Strip in the wake of Hailey's Comet"; a beer site; and a Vermont fleece manufacturer. We assume our Amber Rose is involved with none of those things, though we wish Kanye were dating the holistic bee lady, if only to hear him evangelize a magical bee-and-logic cocktail that soothes inner pain.

Wikipedia hasn't heard of her either — apocalyptic, considering there are entries for everything from the song "Merry Christmas, Jakey Boy," to the popular family hobby Naked Hiking. Undeterred, we sleuthed until we gleaned a few other tidbits: Prior to basking in the glow of Kanye's coif, Amber starred as The Hot Chick in a few music videos, most notably Ludracris's "What Them Girls Like." Bloggers flagged Rose as a model, and although that's often a vague label slapped on anonymous attractive women when people can't figure out what else she does, we did unearth Rose's recent Maxim-esque shoot for Smooth magazine (much deeper googling than we'd intended to do). Unfortunately, the lack of other hard facts has led to rampant, occasionally nasty online speculation that's tough to confirm. We've read that she's a stripper, a beard, a bisexual or lesbian who dramatically dumped a girl to be with Kanye, and Rihanna's best friend. RiRi, naturally, has been too preoccupied to confirm this.

In this day and age, it seems impossible that we’ve spied endless articles about Kanye and Amber shopping for pants, yet her past is a relative vacuum. In the absence of answers, we can only speculate: Is she, as she appears, the overlord of an alien biker gang? Is she performance art? Sweet Jesus, is she his muse? Will his yet-to-materialize fashion line be based on her skintight, rubberized aesthetic? Is Kanye prepping us for a revelatory MTV reality show and/or a spinoff of The Hills, in which Amber liquefies Spencer's brain into a milkshake, thereby making her a national hero and our next head of Homeland Security? Or is this all just a Kanye West scheme to create a celebrity out of nothing, and make a mystery more interesting than the solution itself? At this point, we're rooting for the latter, because no truth could possibly entertain us as much as this conjecture does. Perhaps denying our thirst for knowledge will turn out to be the greatest gift to us, and to pop culture, that Amber Rose will ever give.

Don’t be fooled by Amber Rose’s age. The soon to be 18-year-old has been involved in the entertainment industry since most of her friends were riding big wheels. Rose, a California native, landed her first acting gig on a TV movie called “Face Of Love” when she was only four. Although she was nominated for a Youth In Film Award, Rose drifted toward poetry and music to satisfy her artistic cravings. By the age of 12 she was writing her own songs and playing guitar. Now, the recent high school graduate, is playing solo shows in the L.A. area including ones at 14 Below, The Accept and Respect Festival and The Rainbow Bar & Grill.

Amber Rose Kelly is a BMI affiliated, singer, songwriter, and guitarist born in Hollywood, CA to a musician father and an actress mother, who met on jam night at The Central (now, the infamous Viper Room) on the Sunset Strip. Her original songs are a blend of raw/sultry vocals and alternative acoustic folk/pop/rock guitar. Three years ago, Amber Rose began to perform her original music on the local L.A. music scene. Amber Rose has performed at the 2002 and 2003 Accept and Respect Festivals, several GSA Cabaret Night Fundraisers as well as The Rainbow Room on the Sunset Strip and The UnUrban in Santa Monica, where she had a 1 woman show of her avant garde photographic work. Amber Rose has been writing and collaborating on new songs steadily for the past 5 years. FYI - 10/15/04 - Currently, Amber Rose is looking for bandmembers for gigging, recording and possibly touring in the future. She is looking for a drummer, bassist, rhythm guitar for recording, gigging and possible future touring. Please email for additional information.

Five Questions for Amber Rose

1) At 11-years-old kids are usually playing tag, not writing poetry. What sparked your interest in that?
“I had just started at a new school and was taking an art class. My teacher knew I wasn’t able to draw so he suggested poetry might be a better artistic outlet. I had been through a lot by then emotionally and it was a great way for me to express my feelings.”

2) Tell us about your first solo gig that prepared you for the L.A. club circuit.
“I played in my H.S. auditorium in front of 150 people and scared to death. But I made it through. It was the most amazing experience I ever had. Now when I play, its in bars with people drinking and screaming. I still get nervous, but love to perform.”

3) What’s the story behind “Don’t let go”?
“It’s a song about a friend I had in middle-school that committed suicide. A very emotional song on a very sad topic. On my website I have links for suicide and drug prevention. It’s something I feel people need to start paying more attention to.”

4) You have a catalog of over 30 songs. Is there a sense of urgency to get into a studio and get them recorded? Definitely, that’s what I’m trying to do right now. I’m actually using Craigslist to find some bandmates that I can collaborate with. I would love the opportunity to play with some people and show another side of me.”

5) Currently, you’re using the internet as a second option to get your music across to the masses. Do you feel that is a good way for unsigned musicians to break into the industry?
“Definitely. Although I feel performing live does give you the best chances at getting noticed. It just gives you another option.”

LOS ANGELES – After a brief sabbatical from music at age 18, singer/songwriter, Amber Rose Kelly, of Los Angeles, began playing out again, as a solo artist, in April 2006. But after being voted to compete for a $1 million recording contract in the Bodog Battle of the Bands, the Amber Rose Band was born. The current line up is Amber Rose on guitar/vocals, Buster Nicolas on electric guitar, Yoan Hidalgo on bass, and Eddie Chavez on drums.
Her new band debuted at The Roxy on Aug. 30, 2006 to a packed house. Though eliminated in the WildCard Voting phase, Bodog invited her band back for the Semi-Finals when another band dropped out.
She was the only female fronted band left in L.A., and held her own against 19 of Los Angeles’ best male fronted bands! She may not have won Bodog, but she won the respect of her competitors, and she is sure to win yours, too!
As a result of her involvement with the charity Sound Aid (www.soundaid.com), her song, “Don’t Let Me Go,” will be included in the upcoming Sound Aid compilation CD to be released this year. The CD will sell at Starbucks and other coffee house venues with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Heifer International (www.heifer.org).
Amber Rose and her band will be performing on Jan. 19 at Tangier’s Bohemian Shindig, 2138 Hillhurst Ave. in Los Feliz. Tickets: $10 at the door; 21+.
On Feb. 4 at 8:30 p.m. she will return to the Rainbow Bar & Grill, 9128 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood for an all-acoustic show. Tickets: $8 pre-sale or $10 at the door.

Bio

My music is a blend of alternative pop rock from my songwriting roots of acoustic folk rock. My smooth alto, bluesy belt and raw delivery have had my voice compared to that of Fiona Apple, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, Kelly Clarkson, Amy Winehouse, & Eddie Vedder.

My song, Down The Line was #1 in Acoustic for September 2009, as well as #1 Fan Favorite and Most Played Song for October 2009 with nearly 15,000 plays and over 179X favorited and climbing by listeners on OurStage.com in association with AOL Music.

My song, Sweet Poison was also Top 10 in Singer-Songwriter for June 2009 on OurStage/AOL Music and featured in Hot Artists, Hot Songs, Fan Favorites.

Conceived on the Sunset Strip in the wake of Haley’s Comet, I was born in Hollywood, California, barely ten months after my parents met on Jam Night at The Old Central, now The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip. I have been blessed with music running through my veins. I do vocals, play rhythm, classical, electric guitar, & have recently taken up piano.

I wrote my 1st song at 11, and I first started playing out on the Los Angeles music scene at 15, when I played at the 1st & 2nd Annual Accept & Respect Festival. By age 16, I was playing on the Sunset Strip and in various Los Angeles clubs such as The Rainbow, The Cat Club, 14 Below, The UnUrban, and The Masquer's Cabaret as a solo acoustic artist. Being under-aged at the time, they’d X my hand, and when my set was over, the club would kick my under-aged friends and me out. So, we'd walk down to the Rainbow Bar & Grill to have pizza, then go home & have a party.

I wrote "Don't Let Me Go" in 2003 with Reana Gallardo. The song was released almost a year later when I had just turned 17. A very spare recording I did of just guitar and vocals went to #1 on the Soundclick (www.soundclick.com) Acoustic Vocals Charts after only 7 days online, and the song remained there for 5 months straight. Several press articles followed, two by Joe Barracato (New York Post, The Industry Resource), and two articles in The Tolucan Times. I gained a lot of international fans from more than 65 countries through SoundClick.com back then.

In May 2006, I was asked to include 4 of my song ringtones on John Doffing's Start Mobile Network, and I performed at the launch after party at Club Otis, in San Francisco. Then, a month later, I formed The Amber Rose Band, and I moved on to larger venues at The Roxy, The Key Club on the Sunset Strip, and at The Tangier on Los Feliz.

As The Amber Rose Band, we made it to the Quarter-Finals in the 1st Bodog Battle of the Bands after playing at The Roxy, and were called back in less than 2 days before Semi-Finals to play at The Key Club. I held my own against 19 of L.A.’s best male, rock vocalists that night alone, not to mention getting the popular online Vote in L.A. to play against thousands of L.A. Bands who signed up on the Bodog BOB site to qualify to begin with. The band broke up after playing only a few more shows, when I was laid up after an auto accident.

I played the Sound Aid Concert in Salem, Oregon in 2007, for The Best of Sound Aid CD Release, which includes my song, "Don't Let Me Go". The Best of Sound Aid CD is for sale on CD Baby. Also check out: www.soundaid.org
