Bio
Singer-songwriter Amelia Ellis (born July 4th, 1991 in Connecticut) blends the traditional styles and lyrical narratives of folk and blues music to create a driving, acoustic sound. Her voice and style have been compared to the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Mary Travers, and Alanis Morrissette, sensitive but powerful, carrying the blues on her guitar through the modern world. Formally trained in flute, she eventually grew bored of the rigidity of her classical training. Amelia kept this in mind as she picked up her mother’s guitar at the age of 14 and taught herself how to play with only a Neil Young songbook to guide her. She started playing open mics at Arlo Guthrie's church in Great Barrington, MA at the age of 16 and has since then played at NYC's Pianos, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, The Path Cafe, Silvana, and the Red Square in Albany, NY. She has held residency at LIC Bar in Long Island City, NY, and appeared on stage with Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Julie Gold, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Hugh Prestwood, and singer/songwriter Caroline Doctorow. She currently lives in Torrington, CT and holds a Master’s in Arts Politics from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
