Bio

AmeliaJay started out as Mitch and Jeanette sitting in a piano practice room in Lynchburg, VA sharing ideas. After some positive feedback they decided to get some songs together and play some shows. The buzz quickly spread over the summer, forming the full band in August. After they all fully realized how special this thing was, they decided to do it full time.

"Our influences are all over the place... We each come from a different musical background lending to an altogether new sound. I (Mitch) am heavily influenced by bands like Sigur Ros and Album Leaf, but I definitely have a passion for stuff like Bon Iver, Anathallo, as well as some Electronica and Pop-punk. Jeanette is all over the place. Eisley, Imogen Heap, Brooke Waggoner to name a few... She is the primary writer. Our percussionist, Ben Mauch, is really into ambient/post-rock stuff. His history as a snare and quad player in marching bands has a big influence in his playing. Ben Sooy tends to stick with the post-rock thing as well, but will claim Death-Cab as his favorite band, while Alex is just amazing at bass, and pretty much anything musically.

We believe we have something no other band in the world has. Jeanette's vocals mixed with the piano and songwriting is just beautiful. And that's our goal... To create beautiful music that connects with people and changes their life. We believe in peace and hope and that those two things together can, in fact, paint a masterpiece.
